EMG Watches LLC was founded in November 2016 by two active WatchUSeek members, specifically from the F71 Affordables sub group, Eric Goodlock (goody2141) and Derek Love (chicolabronse). The two co-creators started exchanging ideas for a F71 forum project watch, one thing led to another and EMG Watches was born. To get started, EMG recruited the help of F71’s Eddy Tse who is better known as HKED. With his help, EMG was able to create the DL63 “panda” chronograph based on the 42mm Sea-gull 1963 ST1901 handwind chronograph. Eddy proved to be an invaluable member of the team and joined EMG as an equal partner. EMG produced several small batches of the DL63 which sold quickly. We plan to move forward with the Horizon chronograph and HKED/EMG Nemo in 2018.
By backing this kickstarter, you will receive one Horizon chronograph with one leather rally strap of your choice and a 5 pocket waxed canvas watch roll. After the campaign is over, a survey will be sent out where you can choose your dial and strap combination.
The Design -
Horizon is the second watch from EMG. Our first watch, the DL63 was a vintage racing style mechanical chronograph. We wanted to continue the racing theme with Horizon, but with a retro feel. Horizon is housed in a striking square case and features all the modern specs you would want. We hope you enjoy the Horizon as much as we do.
There will be a few small changes from our prototype watches to the production pieces that you will receive. See the list below for improvements made for production.
- Drilled lugs
- Improved lining on dial (improved visibility and equal thickness)
- Improved printing of white central box around subdials on all blue dials
- Subdial markings will be lined up along outer edge of subdial to give appearance of larger subdial
- All dial colors will have slotted "screws" on the corners
- Turquoise Horizon will have turquoise subdials with white hands (prototype had white subdials with red hands, images were adjusted in campaign to show what the production Horizon will look like)
- Text at 6 will be enlarged slightly
The Horizon case measures 38mm side to side, 46mm from lug tip to lug tip and a very comfortable 12mm overall thickness.
Some believe that 38mm from side to side is too small. However, a square watch wears much differently to a traditional round case watch. You can expect the 38mm Horizon to wear like a 42mm round watch.
The Horizon will be powered by the Time Module (Seiko) VK64 meca-quartz. The VK64 combines quartz reliability and timekeeping with a mechanical action chronograph. The central second chronograph hand beats 5 times per second, mimicking mechanical chronographs. The mechanical part of the movement allows for mechanical feeling start/stop and reset pushers that give a nice click when depressed. When the chronograph is reset, the chronograph hands snap back to zero instantly. Traditional quartz chronograph movements slowly cycle all chronograph hands to zero when reset.
All watches will ship worldwide directly from Hong Kong. Buyers/backers are responsible for any and all customs duties and taxes upon delivery.
The watches will be shipped via Airmail or EMS depending on the location. Please contact us if you require a specific courier service.
Risks and challenges
As with any project like this, there are risks and challenges. Rest assured, we will produce and deliver this watch whatever the outcome of this campaign. We have developed an excellent relationship with our manufacturer. Eddy Tse lives in Hong Kong and is able to meet our manufacturing contact to discuss and swiftly resolve any issues we may encounter. We have tested our prototypes for several months and they have run beautifully and without a hitch so far. We are confident that our manufacturer will be able to produce an exceptional watch that we cannot wait to share with you.
There is always the possibility of unexpected delays. We have taken this in to account and our timeline reflects this. We will keep regular communication throughout the entire process, sharing as much information and as many pictures as possible. We will post updates and full details should any unexpected delays occur.
We pride ourself on customer service. You can contact us by email firstname.lastname@example.org and expect swift resolution. You can also reach us via our social media at www.facebook.com/emgwatches and on Instagram @emg_watches .
Your watch is covered by a one year warranty from the time the watch is shipped, which covers manufacturing defects or malfunctions. We will cover shipping for any manufacturing defects whilst under warranty. If your watch needs repaired due to issues or damage caused by anyone or anything other than the manufacturer or during the shipping process, then all shipping costs and service fees will be at the buyers expense. Opening of the watch for any reason voids warranty.
