@Mark Mitford. It's called not giving up. Things in life and in a project like this don't always go as planned. If you haven't experienced it yet, consider yourself incredibly lucky. The former engineers of a top 3 tool company told us that from conception to engineering to prototyping to pre-production to legal to marketing is a 4-5 year process...and this is a major tool company with hughe resources. Now imagine that with a small startup like us. As far as the updates go, they are a reflection of what really happened. I'm glad you find them entertaing (and well written), but this has been nothing but heartache and challenge for us. Overcoming these challenges are what separates the men from the boys.
@Jonathan. If you really don't care about it, why do you take the time to come on here and comment? The other backers who are still interested want updates as the project is still alive.
@Chris Walker. Well, I kind of agree. I think there is a time to say "Well, we gave it our best, but this just isn't going to fly". You can have a good idea or a good concept, but it may just not work in the real world. We haven't come to that point with the Cole-Bar. It's a good concept and it has a good chance of working from an engineering standpoint. We have to keep plugging away until the data tells us it's just not going to work. I think your stats are a little skewed in a sense. Maybe only 1 in 8 fail to deliver, but how many of those 8 are actually a good product. We could have produced the hammer with the first mfg., but it would not have been a good tool. We would rather take the time and do it right rather than have a one and done type product. Thanks for your comment.
I think at some point you should just expire a project. I mean my $100 pledge is a roll of the dice that the person's idea will fly. If you didn't have it to gamble then you should not have played the crowdfunding lottery. I have backed 47 projects at Kickstarter and another dozen at indiegogo. 1 in 8 fail. I don't imagine Lance is living the high life in the south of France on this small amount of money. Seriously. Just go to home depot and get a hammer and crowbar and call it a day.
Update posted! We have very good news in the fact that a fellow backer has come on board and is helping us move forward with the new prototype with the improved engineering. This is a ray of hope after the big setback. You can read all about it in the latest update. Many thanks to all who are sticking in there with us!
I believe in what you are doing and I'm in it for the long haul. Other kickstarter campaigns leave you with a partially finished product that is of no real use to me. A tool like this makes it impossible to deliver half-arsed, which is good for those of us who want a functioning tool. It's bad for someone who wants something - anything - in their hands. I admire someone who doesn't give up, who doesn't take the money and run, who continues to overcome huge hurdles to realize a dream. Honestly, I forget pledging for this until I see an update. I hope it gets made, gets made right and that I get one. I will wait until that is either a reality or until the man gives up his dream. I'm betting on the former vs the latter.
I think the creators of this project were well-intentioned and have tried the best to deliver the product but they over-committed to what was actually achievable and have been scrambling to come up with something/anything that will work.
The latest update with the miraculous story of a medical device engineer doing more in two months than an established engineering company did in two years (but with no real updates in terms of fulfilling their obligations) is pushing the boundaries of credibility even more than some previous updates (go read all the updates at one time, it's quite funny and well-written but not very believable)...
I don't expect a refund (that's not how kickstarter works, we took a risk and you win some lose some), but I also don't expect to ever receive a product from this kickstarter. The founders should admit defeat and move on instead of wasting even more of their lives on something that will never happen.
Looking forward to the next update. Very promising and I'm still looking forward to putting such a great tool to use in the garage. So excited for the future!
This is VERY different than Anamusic 3 - which should have been possible, given their past successes.
Investing is always a risk. The regular updates; with their disappointments - shows Brandon's team is staking this seriously, trying hard and respecting his backers.
It's was and still is an interesting tool. I lacked the background to understand how difficult it would be to actually create it.
Disappointing for sure. To all those that want a refund I think you need to get your heads wrapped around the fact that on Kickstarter you are venture capitalists, not customers. Some ventures work out, this one may still, and others do not. I hope that this will ultimately happen but if not, "C'Est la Vie."
Oh for crying out loud. You have taken all of our money and you keep posting these phony updates. It is time for you to get the hell out of our lives. You are a thief.
Last login 26 august, what a joke. This is the last time I check, I hope someday that it will show on my porch. The only thing he have show us is well written update, nothing else. When something dont work after so many year 15 I believe, it time to pass to something else.
I support and will continue to hope that this project come to fruition. I do not regret the $65 I spent as I think and still think that this would make an outstanding tool. However, after 16 years I wonder if you have given up too much of yourself to make it worthwhile. I absolutely do not want my money back but I also do not want you to break yourself over a tool. Sometimes it is best to just let go. As a father of 3, one of which is an 11 year old boy I can barely imagine the level of heartache and sadness you have felt these many years. If Cole could reach out to you I am sure he would tell you that you have done everything possible to keep his memory alive, and that he would want you to be happy and know he is ok. It is ok to let go knowing that you have done everything he would have ever expected of you. I would like to share a podcast that I listened to years ago called the upside of quitting.
If you still have a little left from the campaign maybe you could setup a summer camp to teach kids how to work with their hands and build things, or a scholarship for kids Cole's age to help them succeed. If you don't have enough left and want to do this just ask, I will donate more to helping you keep Cole's memory alive. This is not to say that your cause isn't just or noble, just don't loose yourself in it. Cole would not want that.
@korreon Came back to hoping you got SOMETHING from them... More of nothing... These things don't take YEARS. I got a machine that brews beer for me in a year... This isn't gonna happen... sadly.
Epic adventure!!!!! I'm sorry this is so difficult, but it makes for a great story of struggle, and hopefully redemption. I bought two of Cole Bars for myself and Father-in-law for Christmas 3 years ago.... The gift obviously didn't happen yet, but for that Christmas I showed him the Kickstarter campaign and said it was gonna happen. Over the years we have laughed, enjoyed, and struggled with you and the Cole bar Saga. Your determination is very commendable! Production isn't easy.... Especially if you want high quality!!
I have bought several products from Kickstarter that were 10 times the cost of the Cole bar, and have truly Sucked, and I have bought things that I never got, whose updates died after just a few.
You however, are truly committed to this and I am still glad I am invested!
When you come out the other side of this, you will have an gained an incredible knowledge base. I congratulate you for not giving up!
'You do not learn how to be a Great sailer on calm seas!'
At this point I really would like my refund. I'm guessing though that you have spent all our money, I understand problems happen but this saga has been incredibly disappointing. I appreciate your determination but not at the expense of all our money, trust, and time.
Amazing how many other companies can get stuff done but you just can't seem to find the right way.,... I had faith. As I sit here and see the "Be respectful and considerate." comment... makes me chuckle actually. Kinda hard to do when it's been so many YEARS... Maybe you should ask SOMEONE for help? Or just come clean and tell us that's it's not happening.
Some years back I believe that you were in talks with a movie studio and they were Interested in the Cole-Bar Hammer for use in some way during the movie. Did anything come of that? I'm just curious lol
If you can keep your head when all about you are losing theirs and blaming it on you, if you can trust yourself when all men doubt you but make allowance for their doubting too.
If you can wait and not be tired in waiting, or be lied about don't deal in lies, or be hated don't give way to hating, and yet, don't look too good nor talk too wise.
If you can dream and not make dreams your master, if you can think and not make thoughts your aim,
if you can meet with both triumph and disaster and treat those two impostors just the same.
If you can bear to hear the truth you have spoken twisted by knaves to make a trap for fools,
or see the things you gave your life for, broken, and stoop and build them up with worn out tools.
If you can make a heap of all your winnings and risk it on one turn of pitch and toss,
and lose and start again at your beginnings and never breathe a word about your loss.
If you can force your heart nerve and sinew to serve their turn long after they are gone,
And so hold on when there is nothing left in you except the will which says to them hold on!
If you can talk with crowds and keep your virtue or walk with Kings nor lose the common touch, if neither foes nor loving friends can hurt you, if all men count with you but none too much.
If you can fill the unforgiving minute with 60 seconds of distance run, yours is the earth and everything in it and, which is more, you will be a man, my son.

Hang in there Team Cole-Bar! I can't imagine how frustrating this process has been for all of you, but I have GREAT appreciation for all that you've done on this project. I, for one, have looked forward to every incredibly detailed update, and love hearing of each success and setback. It's been an education for me also and I'm enjoying the ride!
And to you, backer Rich DiBuo, so unnecessary and inflammatory to write "Enjoy the $135k. Hope you got yourself something nice." That's RIDICULOUS considering all the work this team has obviously put in trying to make this the best product possible, and they've kept you informed every step of the way. Shame on you.
This has dragged on long enough. I actually forgot I pledged to this. I know this is a dream for you but if it is a dream you can not realistically achieve it is better to admit failure and move on. Please consider giving your backers a sincere apology and learn from your mistakes.

Just had a long and positive talk with Brandon, was impressed by his willingness to call and talk at length about the project and where it is going. I could tell he truly wants to bring the Colebar from concept to reality, and has just had a series of incredible roadblocks to conquer.
