My buddy Joe is on it and working. Check out these first iterations.
Note: Cord and jack not shown in these illustrations.
Let us know what you think.
Would be interesting to see the idea on the top with a perfectly flat back and the logo on the side that will be facing out when the buds are in your ears.....is it an engineering necessity to have the dimpled receptacle on the device or is that just a sort of stability thing?
Gabriel... Unfortunately, not at this point. The minimum order quantity from the factory for a custom earbud design is 3000 units. This is actually a very small quantity in terms of a order for earbuds for a factory. As we continue to grow the business we will add more earbud options in terms of colors, styles and sound quality.
Steve... Right now we need to choose our first earbud design for the Kickstarter rewards. After that, as this business grows, we'll be bring a lot of new styles to market. But that's going to take some time.
Option 1 for me
Are you only going to do in ear or are you going to do some earbud ones as well?
Option 1 please!
Option 1 (keep them low profile - better under a hat, less likely to get caught on stuff while docked), comply tips, R/L indications, & Bruce Couch's recommendation!
I think the 1st option is better - might be more secure in getting them in my ears. But agree with what many people have stated; L/R indications would be great!
So are we going to to be able to choose what colored earbud and cord we get?
Jessica... The earbuds will actually be interchangeable in the way they mount to the Elroy. So, it might be handy to have a small indication of which is left and right.
Am I the only one who assumed that the left earbud would go on the left side and the right one on the right side if you are wearing it with the steel clip facing you? If you are looking at the Elroy with the faceplate facing you the left earbud is on the right and the right earbud is on the left.
I really like the first one!
Bruce and Quy... Both really excellent suggestions!
I prefer #1, but I'd like it even better if you could easily distinguish left from right, both visibly and by feel.
I like the second option -- the one with the more triangular piece that fastens to the Elroy base. My fingers are more on the large size and think I'll be able to grasp onto them with greater ease.
Sorry going to have to reserve judgement until seen mockup with wires attached....
I like the first option
My fear is that the cord placement will make it difficult to fit into my ear with either option. I have the Klipsch x10i right now and from the tip of the comply foam to wear the ear bud exits my ear is close to an inch. I prefer option 1, but feel like the driver/eartip portion of the earphone could be rotated up 45 degrees so the cable points out of the ear.
I am strongly in favor of the first option at this point.
Tally so far:
Option 1 - 22
Option 2 - 2
Option 1 for me. Earphones parts are visually more coherent with the main unit.
I like the styling of option 1. I would like to add that if the size of the earbuds in the design affects the size of the driver and sound quality, I would recommend to build better sounding earphones in sacrifice to the slenderness of the earbud design.
Ben... I'll get Joe to add an indication of where the cords would exit the earbud on the next round.
definitely the key is comfort. without seeing the cables its hard to say which would fit my ear better, despite general consensus looking at my other earbuds and again depending where the cables come out, option 2 looks like a nicer fit...
Option #1 definitely. Also I know that we get to choose the color and style of the housing/faceplate, but(similar to Caleb's Q) do we also get to choose what color earbud?
I'm so glad the majority chose option one!
I agree with the general consensus. Definitely option 1 looks more secure and comfortable.
Looks great. I'm wondering what colors it will be available in
The first one looks better and also more stable as others pointed out.
They both look good, but the first one (top) looks more stable.
Top one definitely looks better. In terms of a cord wrapping mechanism, that would be awesome if possible. Even just a notch somewhere to wrap the excess around for storage. Keep up the great work.
William... Definitely have the Comply tips on the radar. I just need to go out and buy a set before we finish the design to make sure they fit.
Option 1 for me as well. And a follow-up to something that someone else mentioned some updates back and that is the option of using Comply foam tips. Anymore thoughts on that? Really like the fit and the seal and think it would be great to have that as an option.
Option 2 looks better
The top one looks more stable, but perhaps that's just an illusion. The bottom one looks more streamlined, though, I must admit. Still, I'd go with the top one (option 1).
Top one looks better, but bottom one might actually be easier to grip when docking/removing. Maybe if the post on the top one was a tiny bit longer.
Option 1 please, option 2 looks a bit flimsy.
Luke... Please note that they're not cordless. It's just that we haven't added the cord into the drawings yet. Still early phase here.
I'm glad to see broad agreement on #1. That was my pick too.
Any cord-wrapping smarts/mechanism included will be nice.
Something like the flip-open ears of the macbook power supplies.
I agree that the top one looks most practical. I also wear my buds under hats and helmets and option two may be too uncomfortable.
Definitely the 1st one :)
Yea I would choose the first one as well but whatever one has a better weight distribution would be best
Option 1, please.
I like the idea of cutting the cord but I don't think that is what I am seeing here. If these will be truly cordless then I would buy 5
Definitely first one: lowest profile possible, please! I wear my buds under tight hats, etc. and the smaller the better. Thanks!
Option 1 looks imminently more practical to me. Also, include multiple sized earbud tips please.
the first one! looks like the little tab (inscribed with the logo) would sit in the ear nicely to hold the earbud in place.
I really like the way the second picture shows the earphones but it looks like Picture #1 looks more secure. I would prefer the first picture because of the security of the earphones.
I like the first one at the top better.
