I hope everyone had a great Easter holiday.
First, I want to announce that we've engaged Command Partners as our marketing firm for the final two weeks of this Kickstarter. CP has helped several other prominent KS campaigns, like: The COOKOO Watch, TOD by Rowdy Robot, and REMYXX Sneakers. Social media and marketing are definitely not my personal forte, and I look forward to the good folks at CP amping up the Elroy campaign.
I also want to thank everyone who commented on the packaging concepts we posted. I'm finding it incredibly valuable to hear your thoughts as we move forward. We want to keep packaging as minimal as possible. I have a personal hatred for the waste involved in most packaging. Like many of you, I can't stand all the products I purchase that require utilization of heavy equipment (scissors) in order to extract the product from the packaging. Then worse, it's just absurd when I find myself throwing away more than I'm keeping from a purchase.
The challenge is, often retailers have packaging requirements that force companies to produce packaging like this. For now, we're not in a position where we have to make such decisions. Being that we are endeavoring to establish our own domestic manufacturing, we should also be able to greatly limit this in the future as well.
Most companies who have product produced in China must package their product the same for all their sales channels. So, essentially, the requirements of a couple of large retailers will dictate the packaging requirements for all sales channels, since those companies don't want to maintain separate SKU's for each sales channel.
Being our own manufacturer, and specifically using Lean manufacturing and mass customization methods, we will be able to avoid the same problems and keep our packaging footprint to a minimum.
We are also starting to think about our direct to consumer packaging, which will include our KS backer shipping boxes. I hope everyone won't mind if I keep that under wraps so it's a surprise when your Elroy shows up in the mail.
We're continuing to work on our own custom Elroy earbuds in anticipation of reaching $100k this week. Should have some images to reveal to everyone later in the week.
Sorry for the wordy update with no exciting images. Expect more eye candy posts during the week this week.
All the best!
