About this project
Briony Clarke and Allie Furlotti have been accepted to participate in a Comedy based artists residency at the Banff Centre in Alberta. It is an amazing opportunity to create a body of art work focusing on the notion of comedy as a vehicle for art.
Both art and comedy are enlightening, critical, and temporarily bewildering. Potential agents of revolution, they may also reveal aspects of human experience which are otherwise hidden or off limits.
During the residency London based Briony will be working with her Portland based collaborator Allie on a series of flash projects directed in part from script that emerges from an ever evolving spell check dictionary file. A joke book, a documentary and a suitcase of props will chronicle the life and times of an accidental astronaut of a comedian and her friend Johnnie Ray.
With Michael Portnoy (Soy Bomb) the Director of Behavior as facilitator and comedian Reggie Watts as a visiting critic the aim of this residency is to do things with words, images, objects, and movement that attack logic in the gut and make it foam at the mouth.
Through a series of site specific installations and culture jams the theaters double emerges. Rearing its head from within the artifact of the everyday. Part performance, part earnest anxiety for all things, these are jokes that jog the skeptic nerve. One liners, puns and suspicious art.
Based in London Briony needs to fly over the waters to meet Allie at the Banff Centre in September and to pay for her accommodation and residency fee over the two months the residency takes place . For your generous support we will be rewarding you with multiple artwork/s and sending you regular updates on our comical artistry.
