Paper Rocket has been working feverishly to bring you two new books this spring: the first issue of The Age of Elves by Colin Lidston and Twin Bed by me, Robyn Chapman!
The Age of Elves Issue One by Colin Lidston
40 pages, 6" x 9", color cover with black and white interior
The Age of Elves is a comic about the souls of geeks. It follows the story of Sarah Loeb, a teenager with aspirations of being a fantasy illustrator. Issue one introduces us to Sarah and her friends on a typical day in the summer of 2000. Pizza is consumed, RPG adventures are had, and there's a particularly heated debate about what's really in that suitcase in Pulp Fiction.
The Age of Elves is the debut comic of painter Colin Lidston.
"Colin Lidston has equally sharp eyes and ears for details in the complex fabric of everyday human existence...The Age of Elves promises to be a great series!" —Jason Little, author of Borb and the Bee series
Twin Bed by Robyn Chapman
94 pages, 8.5" x 5", black and white with a Risograph slipcase
Twin Bed is a micro graphic novella about a relationship, as told through a series of scenes from a twin bed in a tiny New York apartment. The perspective never changes, and we watch the slow progression of this relationship over time.
The comic itself looks like a twin bed: it's nested in a slipcase that resembles blankets. To open the book, you must pull the covers of the bed.
Twin Bed is by Paper Rocket Minicomics publisher Robyn Chapman. It's her first stand-alone comic in a long time.
About This Campaign
Both of these books will debut in April; at MoCCA, it is hoped. (The Age of Elves is for sure, Twin Bed is a strong probably.) Like all the Paper Rocket Kickstarters, we really consider this to be a pre-order campaign.
Cost of Pledge = Retail Cost of Comics + Shipping
Not a hand-out, a PRE-ORDER!
We keep our goals modest and our campaigns short. Books will ship shortly after the end of a successful campaign. Our $1,000 goal will cover the printing and production cost of the first printing, and the author payment for Colin. Money pledged above the award level (say, you pledge $25 on a $20 award) will be split between me and Colin. I call this "splitting the tips."
For those of you who plan to attend MoCCA: stop by our table if you want to pick up your books there.
Thanks for your support! And special thanks to Robin Enrico (who edited the video) and Hunchback (who provided the music).
Risks and challenges
The Age of Elves is done and ready for the printer. Twin Bed still has a lot of production work ahead of it, but I'm burning the midnight oil to get it finished in time for MoCCA. These books WILL be published, and we're aiming to get all rewards sent out before May.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
