Three kids are gifted with the power of Rock-Paper-Scissors and must battle gag and game-based villains that terrorize the schoolyard!
WHO IS ROSHAMBO?
Roshambo is a comic book about three children who are gifted with super powers by a god-like alien named Roshambo. Discovering that the seemingly simple game known as Rock-Paper-Scissors is, in actuality, the most perfect form of justice in the galaxy, the comedic trio, christened as heralds of Roshambo, must pit their newfound powers against a host of new villains whose abilities are based on popular children's gags and games like Hopscotch, Freezetag, Red Rover, the Thumb Wrestler, Leapfrog, Foursquare, and many more...
THANK YOU! THANK YOU! THANK YOU! THANK YOU!YOU HELPED US REACH OUR GOAL! NOW WHAT?
If we hit $2,500 all backers will get a set of one-of-a-kind ROSHAMBO stickers starring Mike, Summer and Nic—the stars of ROSHAMBO.
Why should you fund this project?
If you love the nostalgic games that have been played by millions of children for hundreds of years, this is the project for you.
Funding us is to share in the experience of creating a new brand that will strike a humorous chord among the playful. These comics touch the heart of the Baby Boomer and Gen X set that can recall the fun of yesteryear’s recess games. Help me keep these awesome schoolyard games alive!
Younger readers will connect with the modern cynicism packaged in a popular art style—Manga! But in order to capture the attention of young adults, the comic must be affordable. That is why I am heralding “The Return of the $1 Comic Book”.
What is the plot?
It all starts on an alien world located in the Soy Galaxy. (Hey, if there is a Milky Way Galaxy you can bet the vegans have a Soy Galaxy.) An alien named Twis’mah Tunik prays to the uber-entity Roshambo to heed their call…
In a seemingly unrelated event back on Earth, the stars of the book—Mike, Summer, and Nic—plot how they are going to get their hands on a video game that is unsuitable for children…
The two seemingly separate storylines collide as the main characters are summoned through a dimensional bowel to the alien world…
Twis’mah goes on to tell the children the origin of the super-being called Roshambo and how he brought peace and justice to the alien world…
Twis’mah further gifts the trio with the power of Rock-Paper-Scissors then sends them back to Earth to fight injustice in its many and varied forms…
With that, our story really takes off as the Roshambo team must confront their first whacked-out villain—HOPSCOTCH! The little maniac has his own plans to acquire the video game and install himself as the world’s premier super-genius!
Where are we at now?
Issue #1 is 100% completed. Printing of issue #1 will give us a product to market over the Internet and at comic book conventions. In order to continue the series I need to compensate my artist/inker/letterer for all of her superb work. I have invested and am willing to invest more of my own money to keep this series going.
It is a labor of love. I hope I hope people love it too.
“What are we going to do with the profits?”
Someone asked me the other day, “What are you going to do with the profits?” The funds are going to be used to print even more hard copies of issue #1. Susan and I plan to use these to promote our work at upcoming comic book conventions. We will also mail some to publishers willing to take a look at our work. Any additional money will be used to produce future issues—paying the artist, printing more hard copies and fulfilling rewards. I am paying money out of my own pocket to achieve the dream, just like a painter purchases supplies for his art. Maybe he will sell the next masterpiece. Maybe he won’t. He still paints.
Our goal is to build a fan base of at least 1,000 readers. We will track this by the amount of people who like the Roshambo Facebook page. We will also count the amount of people backing us and ordering digital copies of our books. We are totally in the promotional phase right now and Kickstarter is just one form of media we are using to accomplish our dreams of having an ongoing comic book.
Thanks for believing in our project!
(And ignore Ro below. He has designs of his own.)
What does success look like?
I have already taken the first step towards success by completely funding the creation of the first issue. The overall project will be successful once I complete the first 6 issues of Roshambo. The 6 issues will be combined into a graphic novel. The goal is to have all 6 print issues completed by early 2014, though completed digital downloads will ship as they are completed.
I also have a toy designer interested in making actions figures. So, really big success would be having comics AND toys to debut at comic and toy conventions in 2014. I would love to shake hands and give a Thank You to all of my backers.
My long-term dream is to see this project give birth to a cartoon series or a long run comic book series. I also have partnered with Encline Designs, the maker of custom Transformers, to produce collectible figures. This is the first step to creating the toy line. I really hope you will join me on this journey. Here is a sample of the first renderings for the inaction figures (though they will be placed in really cool poses).
Here are a few sample pages.
Risks and challenges Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
The risks are nominal and similar to any comic publishing project. I hired a graduate of the Academy of Art University in San Francisco with a focus on Manga and a toy designer who has created custom designs for toy lines like Transformers. This is money from my own pocket. So, I risk going in the hole financially to make this happen.
Other than that, the risks are pretty minimal. Susan and I have proved that we can complete an entire issue and have a load of fun while doing it. Now we just want to get print editions produced. And, with your backing, it will get done!
