A well-wrapped gift is like getting two presents in one. It signals that what's inside is special, and was chosen with thought and care.
Hi! I'm Tay and I love to give well-wrapped, handmade gifts. To that end, I have designed a series of nautical-themed wrapping papers for Christmas and Hanukkah, to be letterpressed on 100% recycled kraft wrapping paper with vegetable-based inks. This 30lb paper is recyclable and sturdy enough to repurpose while still being light enough that it's easy to use.
Letterpress is a process that takes time and patience as the paper must be hand-fed into the press one sheet at a time. That level of care shows in every piece of this paper. It will help your gifts stand out as the special pieces that they are.
Along with considering the future of our planet when creating my project, I also want to invest in the future of our children by pledging to donate 3% of all Paper Forward lifetime profits to Jumpstart, an organization that is working toward the day when every child in America enters kindergarden prepared to succeed. I served as a Jumpstart Corps Member for two years and saw first-hand the amazing impact of their work.
While every item I sell will benefit Jumpstart, I will donate another 3% of the profits from every line of wrapping paper to a related educational charity. For example, My Nautical Holiday line will benefit The Ocean Institute in Dana Point, CA. Using the ocean as a teaching tool, the Ocean Institute inspires learning, literacy and a love of the environment through unique science and maritime history programs.
Note: Per Kickstarter rules, funds raised here cannot go directly to charity. But as soon as we're funded, Paper Forward will immediately begin raising money for these worthy causes!
WHAT WILL YOUR PLEDGE DO?
While I am able to create these designs on my own time basically cost-free, the physical plates that are used for the print making are expensive. By funding my project through Kickstarter you will help pay for these plates. This is a great arrangement for everyone because you will be getting some beautiful wrapping paper and I will be able to afford the plates to make it for you! The funding will also help pay for paper, ink, and press time, as well as a trunk to make my wrapping operation mobile, so I can host wrapping parties and sell at local artist/designer markets in NYC and Brooklyn.
These plates are designed and ready to go and I've already begun production!
For your reward you can choose any combination of my 10 designs:
- Whale of a Blizzard
- Ahab's Sleigh
- The Dread Pirate Gingerbread
- Hanukkah Treasure
- Deck the Anchors
- Santa's Vacation
(All of these designs can be seen in the video up top. Surveys will be sent at the end of the campaign for you to select your designs)
Here are the other fun things that will be available if I can exceed my funding goal:
- $2,000 - Metallic and Neon inks!
- $3,000 - Two-color designs! Because each color has to be on a separate plate, printing a two-color design costs twice as much and takes twice the time to print. If we reach this stretch goal, every reward level will be eligible for these designs (a Kickstarter-exclusive price!): Wreath Preservers, Candy Cane Ropes, Lobster Garlands
- $4,500 - This will help bring my out-of-pocket costs to zero. This extra stretch goal will help pay for paper, cutting, press time, shipping and postage. ALSO, if we reach this goal, every pledge level will include 3 postcards (your choice of Thank you or Holiday, printed on recycled cardstock) for ALL backers. Even if you've already pledged!
- Beyond: If we approach new stretch goals there will be more backer rewards like gift tags and Paper Forward buttons!
Prefer your sheets rolled instead of folded? For reward levels $60 and below, please add an extra $8 to your pledge amount to cover extra shipping costs. Or if you live/work in NYC, message me and we can arrange a free pickup!
International backers: Don't see your country listed? Please contact me directly with the reward level you are interested in and the country you need it shipped to. I will give you the price options (folded vs. rolled) and add shipping to the reward for you so that you can pledge.
Risks and challenges
There are always unforeseen issues that can arise in creative projects, and while I can't control all of them, I believe in the old adage that an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure. I have done multiple test runs with these designs and inks, which have turned out beautifully. All I need to get started are the plates! Once this project is fully funded, I can order the plates immediately, even if the campaign is not finished. Plates only take 4 days to arrive and then i can begin production. I am confident in setting a ship date of December 8th. Hopefully sooner if I am funded quickly!Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
