WABI NABE IS OFFICIALLY FUNDED!  We'll continue to take pre-orders, for delivery before the holidays.

Backers will help fund manufacturing for Wabi Nabe, a cast iron pot, lid, and trivet set designed by Gabriel Hargrove for ODLCO—a new design brand focused on small production runs by independent designers with an adventurous spirit.

The 1.5-quart pot is designed for meals which are served straight from the cooking pot. Drawing from the Japanese terms wabi-sabi (an aesthetic philosophy built on the concepts of simplicity, roughness, and naturalness) and nabemono (one-pot cooking), Wabi Nabe is meant to travel between stove, oven, fire and table with ease.

In the spirit of wabi-sabi, the cast-iron handles are based on the naturally-occurring forms of charred wood, found at the sites of recent California wildfires. The matching trivet rests within a circular track along the bottom of the pot. Though fit to the Wabi Nabe, it is also meant to be used with other dishes.

Handles on the final design, rendered above, are optimized for ease of use. The matching trivet fits into a shallow recess in the pot's base. Pot dimensions: 5.5" high by 6.5" in diameter, and roughly 8" across with the addition of the handles. Weight: 10 lbs. Volume: 1.5 quarts. Materials: 100% cast iron.

Our manufacturing partner is a small foundry in Wisconsin. Each pot will be green sand cast, hand poured and seasoned before shipping to backers. Pattern production is currently underway, and Wabi Nabe will be ready to ship by the end of November.

An essential pursuit of ODLCO is to bring independent design to market by partnering with designers and US industry. Funding from the campaign will support manufacturing of this first ODLCO product, providing a strong foundation from which we can continue to produce quality design works.

Each backer will receive a commemorative booklet about the Wabi Nabe project, including process photos, contributed recipes, and care instructions.

  • Wabi Nabe can definitely be used for camping. It works beautifully over an open flame. Keep in mind that it's cast iron so the total weight comes in right about 10lbs.

  • You can adjust your pledge amount to cover the number of pots you'd like (even after you've pledged). Each pot and lid is $150. If you would like the trivet included, the cost is $210. Once your pledge is submitted, please send us a message (there is a link below the project title) indicating the breakdown of your order.

Don't worry about the reward you have checked - if you send us a message, we'll use that as the itemized order and not a higher reward level.
