Episode 2 Preview Again
Tiny Barbarian Episode 2 is still rolling along and totally in the home stretch. Music is in and the game is filling up with sound effects, and the past month or so I've been working with some testers (thank you, testers!) to get things polished up and made as pleasantly difficult as possible, and I'm pretty pleased with the results so far.
One particular change is that there are a few "clues" here and there to remind the player of his mount's ability. In the first episode the cat didn't require any special commands, but the bee is a little bit more complex. I still try to keep things organic and the game never stops for anything like a tutorial (which would be overkill anyhow) but sometimes it's better to just be obvious.
Has anybody read "The Servants of Bit-Yakin?" It isn't one of Conan's best-known adventures but it did have some ideas I liked. In particular there's a section where a big ape-like creature grabs Conan's girl-of-the-story and he has to pursue them up a network of ruins. I may have gone the "obvious" route when adapting that to a video game, but how could I resist?
Another change for episode 2 is a new "auto grab" mode for ledges, chains, and vines, making you grab them automatically if you just come into range (and in some cases, like ledges, are holding towards the ledge) without needing to hold "up" quite so much. This is off by default but you can switch it on any time in the control options.
Thanks for staying tuned!
