About

Video en ESPAÑOL:  https://youtu.be/qzZlXZBIme4

Teams of characters from the entire universe have joined the ultimate challenge at the arena. Using all sorts of skills, each team must take down the opponent's chakool, while defending their own.

Kubuul, an ancient god-like being, have gathered challengers to prove their worth in the ultimate competition.

This is a turn-based card game that requires memory, strategy and good luck. You'll start by choosing your favorite characters to create a team and challenge the opponent.

You must defeat the other player by destroying their "chakool", magic beings with a bullseye.

As you play, you will have to level up your characters and use their skills to put the odds in your favor. Be ready for a fun, balanced and challenging game that's all about the characters.

  • 4 Character packs (68 cards in total)
  • 10 Chakool tokens
  • Instructions booklet

The contents of the game that are currently displayed have a prototype quality. One of our goals is to improve the quality of all contents: MPC card finish, better packing and more.

Each character pack consists of 17 cards of the same color that belong to a specific character:

  • 1 Character card
  • 4 Essence cards
  • 1 Special skill card
  • 11 Action cards

The Chakool tokens will keep track of each player score. Each token have two sides with values 1 and 2.

The starter pack of the game includes 4 differect characters. This is enough for two people to start playing without buying any additional decks or expansions. Each character has a color, a level and a power rating.

The objective of the game is to defeat the opponent's team by either destroying all of their chakool, or by surviving with more chakool until the end of the game. To do this, you'll have to get cards through a luck and memory mechanic, playing your action cards, leveling up your characters and paying the cost of your cards.

Here's a video showing the basics of the game. Any additional information will be provided in the instruction booklet, included in the starter pack of the game.

NOTE: The game used for the video is a prototype, the quality of the cards and the other contents will be improved: MPC card finish, 270g , with the standard size of 63x88 mm and full color print.

First off, each player must choose their character packs. They need to be at least two packs of different color. Each player can play with up to four character packs as long as they're all of a different color. Although the starter pack only includes 4 character packs, expansions and additional characters are planned for the game.

When the teams are set, character cards are separated and the rest of them are shuffled to create a new combined deck. This means a player is ready and the game set-up can take place.

Each player will only play during their own turn, using the cards on their hand and their side of the table. The game is divided in zones: action zone, support zone, deck, play zone, discard zone and hand.

Here's how a player's side should look like during a game.

Chakkan: the card game was included in the Top 5 games from Roll A Game Expo in 2018, by Juegos de Mexa.

Over 100 players had a fun time testing Chakkan during Roll A Game Expo 2018 (RAGE 2018). Thanks to the support and their awesome feedback, Chakkan was able to improve beyond our expectations.

Thank you! It was a wonderful experience.

Testing session of the game in Coffee & Dragons. New players have a fun time learning about Chakkan: the card game and the project.

I've always liked the concept of trading card games, and back in high-school I'd play my favorite card game with my friends. But I came to notice that those games were more about buying and building powerful decks, rather than actually having fun with them.

You'd spend a lot of money for a single card that you "needed", and playing with only your favorite cards wasn't really a good option.

With all that in mind, I decided to make a card game that could be fun, balanced and that focused on the characters more than anything. And of course, I wanted to introduce everyone to the universe of Chakkan, a project I've been working on for years.

The art, the game design, balancing, characters and everything that involves creation was made by myself, HoangJo. During a small expo, where I introduced my game to the public, I met Memo, the man that would help me make this project bigger and better.

Art & Design

I'm a fan of toony styles, specially that of the 80's or 90's. I like it when a card shows what makes the character unique: the clothing, the anatomy, the personality, etc. I never aim for realism or any complex and saturated elements when I draw.

From my point of view, it's just like colors; they are simple elements that can represent a lot, and you can identify yourself with them. That is why in the cards you'll see the characters and the actions as the main focus.

The idea was to keep everything on the cards simple. All cards have the same basic elements, so you can read the info faster. Since the game is about characters, most of the area in the card is used for the art.

Mechanics

It started when I asked my dad about ideas for a game. He wasn't really into that, so the first thing he suggested was "memorama", or memory game. It was easy to ignore the idea first because it was "too simple". Well, that's what I thought first.

As I learned and tried new mechanics from other games, I decided to make it a mix of various of those mechanics; easy to learn for new players but also appealing for more experienced card game players. I had everything in my head except one thing, something simple, fun and easy to learn... that's when my dad's idea came to the rescue.

After defining the game, it was a matter of balancing and testing it as much as possible. For that, I printed 4 different versions of the game and I also tested it online with Tabletop Simulator.

Currently, the game has only been produced as a prototype, but we are working to get the best quality possible. We already have in mind an MPC card finish, 270g , with the standard size of 63x88 mm and full color print.

The starter pack of the game will include everything needed for a complete two player experience. But if we reach the following milestones, we will be able to improve the game even further.

We will work with a fulfillment business to lower the shipping prices. With this, we also seek to avoid any delays or lost packages issues.

The shipping prices listed below are an estimation. We will let our backers know of any possible changes, always aiming to keep the same prices or lower them as much as possible.

If you are in Mexico city or in Puebla city, you can pick up your game in one the designated establishments. No shipping cost!

Si estás en la ciudad de México o en la ciudad de Puebla, puedes recoger tu juego personalmente en uno de los establecimientos designados. ¡Sin costos de envío!

We're working to get the best price possible and to offer the same shipping price to all states in Mexico.

Procuramos conseguir el mejor precio posible y ofrecer el mismo costo de envío en todos los estados de la república Mexicana.

We're working to make shipping prices more accessible. Currently, we're trying to offer the following prices in Spain, France and Deutschland.

Chakkan: the card game and all content related to Chakkan is created by Juan José Cabrera (HoangJo) and is published by Another B Game, run by Guillermo Milano.

We met at a small expo, when the game was first introduced. One was looking to create a game and the other one to start a board game publishing house. From complete strangers to great partners, we started working together to join, not only our efforts, but also our dreams.

The card game is one of many other products from the Chakkan universe. Before this game, most of the creator's work were short comic strips, apps and a blog. You can enjoy and support more of Chakkan here:  http://www.chakkan.org

You can also follow Chakkan: the card game on Facebook.

We consider that kickstarter is a trusty and professional platform. We have seen projects and ideas of different types come to life thanks to the people on kickstarter.

We have also supported other projects before, and so we know the risks and the advantages that this option can offer.

The challenge also comes with a responsibility. Knowing that the backers are giving us their trust, we will keep in touch with them to solve any issue and to share any news about the creative and production process of the game.

Thank you for your trust!

Risks and challenges

We are completely aware that some things could go wrong, besides not reaching the goal. One of our biggest concerns will be the delivery of the game, considering prices and times vary in different places. We already have information and different options for local delivery, and we will work hard to make sure every game is delivered, though it will definitely be a tough task.

Anything including production or upgrades could mean delays or even changes on materials for the game contents. Our goal is to achieve the best quality possible, making sure the game is worth the wait.

The current game is a prototype, so once the goal is reached, we will keep working to improve details and upgrades. In short, our greatest challenges in this project will be the production time and the deliveries.
