FINAL 30 MINS FLASH GOAL!!!!
IF WE HIT £21,500 WE'LL TAKE A SIP OF WINE FOR EVERY BACKER IN THE THANK-YOU VIDEO, AND A SIP OF WHISKY FOR EVERY 50!
In The Football Game, each player takes charge of a football club and manages it through an entire football season.
The Club with the happiest fans wins!
The Football Game is about the funny and scandalous side of the sport: you'll see the rivalries, the headlines, the rise and fall of stars, the emotion, and the occasional madness that happens both on and off the pitch.
It’s full of wonderful characters, great artwork, plenty of jokes, and keeps you making interesting decisions throughout - you don't need to know anything about football to enjoy the game!
The Football Game combines our love of the sport with our love of tabletop gaming. The game is not only about how football works, but also how it feels!
The Football Game is also available printed in German! Backers will get the choice between The Football Game or Das Fussball Spiel in the post-campaign survey.
We wanted to make a game that we couldn't find elsewhere:
...one that brings the joy and despair of everyday football fandom
...one that explores the identity and attachment to clubs of all abilities
...one that reflects the idea that for millions of fans across the globe: football matters!
''I loved the interplay between different Players ...I find myself thinking 'wow, this game's really fun' ...it has opened my eyes a little bit (to soccer) ...it takes really solid mechanisms and puts the theme of the sport right in there ...if you're a fan of soccer, this is a must-own''
Intro: 00:00 to 01:36
How-to-play: 01:38 to 21:30
Conclusion and final thoughts: 21:32 to End
''It cost me a lot of brownie point to persuade my partner to sit down and play The Football Game...
Here is why you should seriously consider backing this game today; after we had put the game away, my partner turned to me and said "I'd play that again... Fancy another go tomorrow?". Now that is the sign that a game has universal appeal.''
Ty (8): ''This is a really good game! I really like football, so that makes me love it even more!''
Kelly: ''I'm not into football, I don't watch it what-so-ever BUT, saying that: it's not a game that's too technical, it's quite easy to understand... it's a good game! It's good fun''Russ:'Once you know what you're doing it'll take 75 minutes - maybe even an hour. It's a good quick bit of fun''
We asked Nick Meenachan of Board Game Brawl to create a short preview for The Football Game. You can watch his video here:

How-to-Play: 02:16 to 06:29

You may order multiple copies of The Football Game, including 'Executive Box' (ExB) copies!
Please add to your pledge as below:
UK & Germany = +£33 per extra copy.
UK & Germany = +£47 per extra ExB copy.
Rest of World = +£35 per extra copy.
Rest of World = +£49 per extra ExB copy.
That's right, the UK and Germany pay NO EXTRA SHIPPING on multiple copies!Charging +£2 to RoW per extra copy doesn't fully cover our additional shipping costs - this is the simplest way we can give you a discount!
So for example:
3 copies to UK = £33 + shipping (£6) + £33 + £33 = Total £105
3 copies to USA = £33 + shipping (£12) + £35 + £35 = Total £115 (~$149.30)
Please note: Add-ons are not exclusive to Kickstarter, but they are limited runs! Left overs from the production run may be sold via our website (at a higher price), or may be used as promotional material at exhibitions/events.
The Football Game will print in both English and German. Rules and card translations will available online in Spanish, French, Italian and Dutch.
Please visit www.londonboardgames.com/games or our Board Game Geek page for a how-to-play of The Football Game. Please note that the downloadable rules are NOT a final version. The final version may be tweaked, will be differently formatted, graphically improved, will include guidance for the 'quick game' alternate set-up, and will be complete before the end of the Kickstarter campaign.
We’re not a big company, we’re three people who wanted to play a game that we couldn't find elsewhere. So after three years designing, playtesting, experimenting, and refining, The Football Game is finished and we want to share it with the world! Our Kickstarter campaign will fund the first production run of The Football Game.
The London Boardgames Co is a family company comprising of Simon, Mark and Jo Pearson (a father and two sons, respectively). All three of us are board game fans, and football fans. We founded the London Board Games Company to launch The Football Game, but with your help this could be the first game of many.
Mark studied Business and Marketing at the University of Stirling (a choice that had nothing to do with Stirling's proximity to world-class golf courses, honest). Mark loves games that inspire an emergent narrative, and counts Dominant Species, Betrayal at House on the Hill, and Race for the Galaxy among his favourites. Mark should be easy to spot owing to his big hair and propensity for wearing green. He currently lives in Staines, West London.
Jo's first love was Kingmaker, aged 5. He's been moving small bits of cardboard around on larger bits of cardboard ever since. Jo tends to prefer games with a blend of narrative and strategy, and his all-time favourites are Twilight Struggle, Advanced Civilization, and Race for the Galaxy. He is also partial to Role Playing Games, studied American Literature and Creative Writing at the University of East Anglia, and is currently studying Computer Science and Artificial Intelligence in the beautiful city of Canterbury.
Simon is a bald (close cropped!) fifty-something ex-fast-jet navigator for the Royal Air Force. He spent spent 20 years as a Cold War Warrior on Buccaneers and Tornadoes, including 5 years with the German Luftwaffe. His love of serious gaming started in the mid-70s with Wargaming: micro tanks, ancients at Exeter University, D&D, Musket and Pike, Arab Israeli Wars and Mech War 77. However his his first love is trains, and his all-time favourite is 1870 by Mayfair Games. Simon has been married for over 30 years to Nikki, and lives in Purley, South London.
We treat retailers just like regular backers, so retailers also get copies + all Stretch Goals BEFORE we release copies into regular distribution.
During the campaign, select the £123 RETAIL Season-Ticket Holder pledge tier and contact Mark (firstname.lastname@example.org) for further information. Your £123 pledge will be deducted from your invoice once order numbers have been confirmed.
Retail cartons were x6 games, but retail cartons are now x3 games. We made this change because each The Football Game is a hefty 2KG and multiples of 3 maximises flexibility to keep shipping prices as low as possible.
The £123 pledge level is now for two cartons x 3 games (we can't change the pledge tier now, If you would like fewer than two cartons contact us and we'll sort things out).
Retailers may also purchase Executive Box games and other add-ons. Please contact Mark at email@example.com during the campaign for more information.
UGH! Shipping, right!? We've backed many projects over the years and understand how frustrating this section can be! So to take the headache away for everyone, we've teamed up with experts. We've partnered with professional fulfilment company, GamesQuest:
GamesQuest are very experienced in worldwide Kickstarter fulfilment (as well as being top blokes). We’re delighted to be working with them and are confident of the service we will provide together.
One copy of The Football Game weighs approx 2KG. To ensure that everyone gets the best deal, shipping is a custom rate based on your specific country. Please pledge and enter the country you want your rewards delivered to. Below is a breakdown:
We will state the direct manufacturing replacement cost on customs forms so that your packages should fall well below VAT/CUSTOMS/DUTY thresholds.
To keep worldwide rates low, packages to a number of destinations will not be tracked as standard. If your package would be untracked and you would like to have it tracked, please add £2 to your shipping service and let us know - we’ll happily arrange to ship your package with a tracking number.
If you country does not appear in the drop-down list, let us know and we'll add it!
Due to costs and risks beyond our control, we are unable to ship to Russia, South America, and Africa - sorry!
If you have any questions, we'd be delighted to answer them! We're available every day from 8am to 11pm London GMT time. Depending on demand we may be a little slow at responding - but we'd like to talk to everyone so please do write to us at:
We look forward to hearing from you!

Risks and challenges
We're aware that there are inherent risks with any project as large as producing and manufacturing a board game. Shortages, delays, shipping hiccups, strikes, and sampling problems are all hard to predict. That's why we've done our research and have planned the whole project with the advice and consultation of experts in the business.
We're pleased to have become friends with a multitude of other designers, developers, distributors, publishers and successful Kickstarter campaigners, who have all contributed to our project plan. In addition, at the London Board Games Co we each have a wealth of experience in product development and project management and are confident that if any problems do arise, our previous experience and collective network will help smooth their resolution.
The game art is generally ready for printing and our artist is on standby so that 'be in the game' reward levels are fulfilled soon after campaign completion. The box and rulebook are near their final versions and will be ready before the end of the campaign.
Of course if there are any hiccups, we promise to communicate with you pro-actively, and will remain completely transparent. I suppose a simpler way of putting this is: We'll hold ourselves to the same high standards that we have expected from the publishers of Kickstarters we've backed in the past.
Thank you for your consideration. We hope you'll share our enthusiasm in creating a tabletop football experience unlike anything out there - this can only exist with your help!
