Oak City Collective is a new art and design collaborative opening in Spring 2013 in downtown Raleigh’s historic Warehouse District. OCC was founded out of our love for Raleigh and the wonderful creative community it fosters. There are so many local artists that deserve to be seen and heard. As talented as they are, it is sometimes hard to get exposure and can be even harder to sell a piece of work for what it is truly worth. This is our proposed solution—our mission is to promote these artists in a format that is easily accessible and approachable for everyone through screen print design.
We will be screen printing apparel, bags and prints that reflect the city of Raleigh and our local artists, musicians and creative contributors. In addition to our own designs and those submitted by local artists, we will provide placement for existing local brands, with the overall goal being to make it easier for an artist to spread their talent around and get their name out there. We hope that it will create a chain reaction and reach and inspire everyone in our great city and beyond.
In addition to bringing attention to our local talent, OCC will be giving back to the community each step of the way. Each artist will be paired up with a local non-profit or charity organization to which a direct percentage of the profits from each design will be donated. We hope that this project will not only bring a sense of unity to our city, but also recognition to our vast creative scene and the artists that make Raleigh so unique.
Thank you so much for your support!
Risks and challenges
There are many costs associated in regards to procuring the proper equipment and creating a product that is marketable. We want to be sure we are prepared to produce each artist's design true to their vision without cutting corners on quality. We will put as much heart and soul into the production of each design, as the artist has put in to create it.
Additionally, we must find local artists who are excited about contributing and have unique designs to share with the community. At this point, we have had excellent feedback from the artists we have reached out to and have been so impressed by their enthusiasm about joining the OCC project.
Our final, and largest obstacle is creating visibility. This project means nothing if we aren't able to provide an attentive audience for our artists. Not only are we providing an outlet for creativity, supporting our local community through charitable donations, and providing a product that Raleigh can be proud of- but we want to make a statement. Oak City Collective will provide the opportunity to show everyone why Raleigh is the greatest city in the world.
That being said- we are confident that our team is capable of conquering each of these obstacles with ease. We have spent months planning and troubleshooting to ensure that the launch of Oak City Collective will make the people of Raleigh proud, and we promise not to disappoint.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
To generate visibility for the artists that make up Raleigh's unique creative scene, give back to local non-profits and charitable organizations, and foster a sense of community involvement throughout the city of Raleigh.
Local, Raleigh artists! We urge any local contributor to find their own
artistic expression of the city of Raleigh and submit it to our team at http://mailto:email@example.com
Our initial product line will consist of super comfy, eco-friendly tee shirts, accessories such as tote bags and prints for the home, such as posters and canvas prints.
Follow us on Twitter @oakcitycoll or on Facebook:http://www.facebook.com/oakcitycollective to stay up to date on our Springfestival tour schedule in Downtown Raleigh. Each design will also beavailable for purchase on our website: http://www.oakcitycollective.org/.
We plan on our storefront officially opening by the beginning of May at the latest, but our first priority is investing in a full-service marketing strategy to gain visibility for Raleigh's incredible artist community.
A lot, seriously! Of course, each artist will receive a direct percentage from the sales of their prints but beyond that- Oak City Collective will act as a representative for each artist to promote their work throughout Raleigh and provide visibility for their designs. Our format will allow for local artists to continue doing what they do best- creating, while we work hard to get their designs out in the market.
We want to be viewed as more than just a screen printing shop, we want to be a creative hub and a catalyst for community involvement, not just in the art scene, but to all corners of Raleigh. From each print sold, 10% will be given directly back to the LOCAL non-profit or charitable organization chosen by the artist. The designer will have the opportunity to select a local organization that is near and dear to their heart to which the percentage of profits for their design will be donated.
The money we receive from Kickstarter will go directly into marketing and producing our artists' designs, creating our first line of screenprinted products and gaining visibility for our project so that we can get the word out, get more involvement & interest and create the vibrant creative hub that we have envisioned.
Well, there are some things we are really good at, annnnnd there are some things we really aren't good at. One of those things happens to be Amazon.com account management :) Here is what happened: Young Cardinals is an awesome local band (from Raleigh) and out of our love for local arts we helped them out in executing their own Kickstarter campaign. It was a huge success, but lines got crossed in the transition and their name still resides on our Amazon Payments account. DO NOT FEAR! It is simply the name on the account. Oak City Collective manages the account and will receive 100% of your generous contributions. If you have any questions or concerns, feel free to contact Stefanie (http://mailto:firstname.lastname@example.org).
