About this project
We are hoping to open the very first Cat Cafe in the East Midlands called Kitty Cafe. Cat Cafes have been around for quite a while in countries mainly in the East however one has recently opened up in London that has been a huge success and we think Nottingham will benefit from the experience.
We believe Nottingham is the ideal location due to it's buzzing city life, historical tourism and it's unique creative hub. Nottingham is a focal point in the East Midlands attracting both domestic and international tourism as well as having 2 fantastic Universities that draw in students from far and wide! Nottingham is also a city which brings with it small living accommodation, high amounts of rented property and a workforce with long hours which means having a pet is just impractical for many of it's residents! With Kitty Cafe customers can experience the joys of a pet without the mess, stress and time that comes with it!
Kitty Cafe will be more than just your standard cafe, it will be an experience. Not only will there be beautiful kitties around enjoying the company of us mere humans but also every aspect of the venue, from the food and drink to the decor and furniture, will be top quality and highly luxurious. We are aiming for Edwardian class with a modern twist and emphasis on an English Afternoon Tea appeal. The experience we want you to have is of a beautiful living with big comfy chairs, a lovely hot drink and of course a fluffy cat to fuss. We want you and the cats to feel pampered at all times.
Cat welfare is our top priority, we are working with local cats homes to assist us in selecting the correct breeds for the cafe environment and to devise health care plans for each cat individually. We are also working closely with various design companies to ensure that the design of the cafe is around the cats to offer them the calm, comfort and enjoyment they deserve! In conjunction with the cats homes and designers, we are also working with the local authority to ensure we comply with all standards required of us for customers and cats alike!
So we know what we need to do and how to do it - the final piece of the puzzle is the funding! The funding provided by you will enable us to finalise the building and fund the 'fit out' for the cafe and cat environment. The more we raise the quicker we can make it a reality! We have a wide range of rewards available to you including bookings for Kitty Cafe meaning YOU will be one of the first visitors to this unique experience!
We believe 100% in our venture and we hope you do too!

Risks and challenges
Cat Cafes are a new concept in the UK and therefore there can be risks involved. Businesses experience a lot of little problems and a few big ones - however it is how you react to the issue that denotes whether the business is a success or not. Keep calm and carry on is obviously very apt for businesses in all stages - addressing each issue as it arises and starting each day afresh has stood us in good stead so far! Dedication is something we have in bucket loads, so when the staff do not turn up or there is an issue with the stock or there are 100 jobs and only 5 pair of hands - we roll up our sleeves buckle down and plow through until every task is completed! And then wake up the next morning and do the same again! In our eyes every issue has a solution!
However I think that Kickstarter would like some specifics so here are a few of issues we have identified that we have been working on recently:
The cats will need time to adjust to the environment and so we intend to have staff and cats on site for a few weeks before opening to the public. This will ensure that the cats become used to the environment and having people around them as well as to each other.
Cats may become ill and therefore we will have training for all staff to identify the cat and a safe 'home' for the cat so they can recover. All cats will be visited regularly by a vet.
The cafe cannot become over crowded for cat safety and therefore designing the layout and booking system for optimum effectiveness.
The fit out may be delayed and so the cats must be able to be placed outside the building until completion - all cats have a loving home with ourselves or other members of staff until the time is right for them to come to the building.
The time we take to open the doors for Kitty Cafe could experience delays meaning we have to be flexible with the money we raise to be able to address delays in timing. Unexpected issues may arise and therefore a reserve fund needs to be kept to ensure that the expenses can be met.
Plus many more issues we are addressing before Day 1 in the life of Kitty Cafe!
I hope you can see our commitment not only to the project but also to the cats themselves. We attempt to be proactive in all aspects of the our project however we are able to react effectively when necessary!Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
