David doesn’t remember meeting Lourdes. He imagines it’s irrelevant, the meeting, though lord knows the media would consider it fated. Important.
David Chapman is used to being underestimated, used to working harder than everyone else for what he is. Too small for the OHL, he was passed over in the draft, eventually snapped up by the Quebec Remparts. He breaks half their records in his rookie year, saves the rest for his sophomore. Captains a U18 Team Canada to Gold. He walks into his draft as the consensus first pick, and he's earned it.
It just so happens Jake Lourdes is standing in the way.
TRILOGY OF DAVID CHAPMAN’S GROWTH IS A GO.
The boy needed an epic to grow into man he'd become, and that epic is going to be comprised of a trilogy, which coming in first place will begin.
So what’s this going to look like?
between the teeth is going to now be comprised of three short novels (approx 60k apiece), which can most distinctly broken down into ‘pre and then’, ‘exit Jake, but enter supportive people and professional achievement’ (Kiro would like this to be called ‘NOVEL OF KIRO (and Olezhka)’, and ‘Caps Caps Caps’
Wait if coming in first place is only BTT pre-and then, isn’t it going to be ridiculously short?
Well, it would be, except unlike the latter two novels in the BTT Trilogy of Growth, I’m going to be writing a number of additional chapters — what is currently chapter one is going to be multiple, to better flesh out those U18 matchups and the draft, rather than jump with two feet into David Chapman, Salty Bean (first the bean must be salted), and also that often referenced, barely seen Summer of Love in Toronto before Jake kind of…destroys everything? That’s going to be fully fleshed out, picnic date and all. It’s going to be real sweet. My teeth will hurt just writing it.
December 2019, really Taylor? Do you not remember TOTI?
Vividly, but I walked into TOTI thinking I was working on a completely different project than I ended up doing, and so much of the delay was based in writing time (and...reluctance to face the inevitable). I will be expanding parts of the original BTT, as mentioned above, but unlike TOTI, and YCMAL, this is going to be less of an expansion (YCMAL gained 20k, TOTI 40k), than some additions to the bones that are already very much there. Plus December just seems to be when my books want to be published. I'm embracing it.
Risks and challenges
I put a lot of thought into what my estimated completion date is, and know pretty much every step for publishing from experience by now, and have been thoughtful about what 'coming in first place' particularly requires, but there's always the possibility of unforeseen circumstances causing a delay.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
