A visual retelling of "The Spider and the Fly" with a bit of Hansel and Gretel thrown in.
The Inevitability of Spiders and Flies is a picture book I created and illustrated for my BFA thesis project. It is a take on Hansel and Gretel, but also follows the theme of Mary Howitt's classic poem, The Spider and the Fly–hence the title. It is not your typical children's book (no cute puppies or sugary rhymes*), but my intention is for children and adults of all ages to read and enjoy it. The book consists of a poem written by my sister, Jennifer, and 36 pages of illustrations which were done in pen with some watercolor.
In order to retain full control over the story, I have decided to self-publish The Inevitability of Spiders and Flies. My plan is to get the book printed, which will cost approximately $3,500. The rest of the money will go toward rewards, materials, and shipping. If I exceed my goal, I will use the money to print more copies and perhaps fund my next book project!
*There is a poem and it rhymes. However, it is not the least bit sugary.

The poem and all of the illustrations are complete. Any setbacks or delays would occur in the printing process. I plan on keeping all of my backers informed and up to date, so any problems that pop up will be communicated immediately.
