About this project
Here at the Magnolia Photo Booth Co. we are a small group of friends who build kick ass photo booths. We started renting photo booths for weddings and events in Louisville, KY and currently have booths in San Francisco, Los Angeles, Chicago, Austin and New York. Now we want to bring free photo booths to the rest of the country. Imagine this... A custom-built Westfalia that runs on Bio Diesel with a photo booth built into it. Our goal is to build the ultimate earth friendly, hit-the-road photo booth ever.
With the help of Facebook, Twitter and the digital era we have all grown accustom to the instant gratification of photography. While our booth prints amazing high resolution images in under 20 seconds we still manage to maintain a certain element of nostalgia within the printed photograph itself. Thus, we want to share our love for photos, the art behind them and the everlasting memories they entail to people across the nation- including you.
During our journey we will be using the latest in web technologies to keep our supporters and followers well in-tuned online all the while celebrating the medium of print on the road. We want to capture the lives and stories of those we encounter through the eyes of our booth. To further celebrate the medium of print we plan to create a book inspired by this description of Robert Frank's classic book 'The Americans.' "Armed with a camera and a fresh cache of film and bankrolled by a Guggenheim Foundation grant, Robert Frank crisscrossed the United States during 1955 and 1956. The photographs he brought back form a portrait of the country at the time and hint at its future.”
Instead of the Guggenheim, we turn to you Kickstarters.... with the help of this powerful community we are hopeful to create this epic tail of photos and the open road. Thus, it is up to you to help us plan our journey. With each pledge you will have the chance to drop a pin on our map. Every city or town with the most pins is guaranteed a visit- no trailer park, suburb or commune is excluded. Thus, we encourage you and your friends to ban together and offer whatever you can to buy a pin, book or awesome t-shirt. And for any of you who love throwing amazing events that your friends will talk about for years to come- we encourage you to become one of our top sponsors and we will bring the booth to your doorstep.
While our goal enables us to build the rig, make all of the rewards and stay on the open road for six weeks we are not limiting ourselves to that timeline. The more funding you provide, the more of you we can visit. The longer we can stay on the road, the more diverse our portrait will become. For the rewards we have teamed up with the talented crew at Hamburger Eyes to handle all the book design and printing. Our good friend and renowned artist Dennis Mcnulty will handle artwork and T-shirts design. For the photo booth van we turn to our friend Bob Lake a Westfalia enthusiast based on the West Coast. If you can't spare a couple bucks please help us spread the word to as many people as possible. The interactions we will have and the stories that will be told are what this is truly about. We hope you can be part of it.
