My last film, THE BIG WEST, was my biggest project yet. And with that behind me, I feel ready to tackle an even bigger one. It's called SAME GHOST EVERY NIGHT.
In 2011, I corresponded with Brent Green, a filmmaker I really respect. He said he’d like to see my
film, MY FAVORITE PLANET, particularly if it had “bears on bicycles or haunted
food” in it.
MY FAVORITE PLANET did not really include either of these elements, but ever since then, I’ve wanted to make a film based around those ideas.
That served as the inspiration for this new script.
My producer-friend, Robert Hoxie, and I have sat
down and put together a budget for this movie, and if we raise about $2,000 we
should have just enough to do nearly everything we want to.
I’ve heard a rule that says, in the end, you spend $1000 for every minute in the runtime of your completed film.
This is, of course, stupid.
But by that standard, I am only asking for enough to make a two-minute-long movie.
This budget is low.
Our expenses include the materials to create a full bear costume.
(Almost all of my films include a “guy in a suit.” A deep-engrained influence of Godzilla films, I’m sure.)
There is equipment that this project demands that we do not have yet. The ghost in the movie, for example, will be rotoscoped frame by frame with a wacom tablet.
We are also
shooting on location in several places, including a house, and grocery store.
In order to secure these locations, we need to purchase insurance. This is a great deal of our budget, and securing liability insurance for our crew and cast is very important to me.
Making this movie is important to me.
It’s about death, the fear of darkness, and the void. It’s about broken hearts. It’s about lonely ghosts. It’s about bears riding bikes. It’s a love song.
With your help, we can make it happen.

Risks and challenges
Filmmaking is inherently all about running into problems and overcoming them.
Director, Werner Herzog, once said filmmaking is a long string of banalities and embarrassments.
Problems are expected, but they will be overcome.
