About

What is Minions?

Minions is (or will be) an online Collectible Card Game (CCG) that is designed to bring the fun and enjoyment of CCGs back to the players. As with all Fantasy Core games we put fun and entertainment first. We don't believe in the "Pay to Win" model that so many other gaming companies have adopted. Clearly we are a business, and as a business we need to make money, but we do not feel that making that money should come at the cost of making the game less enjoyable for any of our players. Thus, it is our plan to make all payed and exclusive content as purely cosmetic as we can. We certainly will never make the most powerful cards in the game available to paying players only.

What is Minions about?

The base game is designed to answer a long living Internet Meme, who would win in the fight of Pirates vs. Ninjas. But it won't stop there! 

As you will notice a little further down we have some expansions planned for the future, and one of these expansions will bring Cowboys and Aliens to mix. In fact, at the current moment we have ideas for more than 10 potential expansions, totaling more than 2,000 unique cards, and new ideas come to us every single day.

What makes Minions different than any other CCG out there?

Functionally, nothing. Every company that makes a CCG does what they can to mask the fact that they are selling you the same game you have already been addicted to since 1993 (maybe even earlier).

When it comes down to it, ours is no different. You will still be using cards to represent 'creatures', 'spells', and 'abilities' for the purpose of defeating your opponent and gaining ultimate bragging rights.

What does set us apart is our business ethics. We feel there is no need to charge you $40 just to get access to that expansion that might allow you to win the card that you really want. If you are already buying booster packs, why should you have to buy the expansions as well? We here at Fantasy Core like to view our fans as fellow gaming enthusiasts, and not walking bank accounts.

So then how will you make money?

We believe that a good game with a good fan base can maintain a profit large enough to support the creative team through sales of nonessential items. Some examples of these items would be new card backs, foil cards with alternate artwork, or even alternate sound and music sets for the game.

We also plan on selling booster packs to allow people to build their complete card collections for those of us that just have to have the full set. And maybe... just maybe... Premium Hero sets (A Hero will be what represents a player in game) provided we can maintain a decent balance where a premium hero does not give an unfair advantage over a normal hero.

How long will it take to play a game?

Minions is designed to be a fast paced card game. As such each player will have a limited amount of time each round to play their cards. There is a long mathematical explanation that goes into it all, but saving you from the boring details, lets say the average game should be less than 5 minutes.

What is the target age group for Minions?

As with most online games our target audience is "Teens and Older". However, it is our intention to restrict communication in game and limit any 'sexiness" to a level that would be ok for general audiences..... so lets call it 13+ or at parental discretion for now.

Do you plan on having your game rated by the ESRB?

We have no intentions of being rated by the ESRB at this point. However, we would voluntarily give ourselves a "T" rating with a "Users Interact" rider.

Where will you sell the game?

We won't be 'selling' the game. The game itself will be free. But to answer the question more accurately, we plan on releasing the game for PC, and MAC and will distribute it through a website built for the game.

Will there be an iOS or Android version of the game?

Yes, It is absolutely in our plan to release Minions on both iOS and Android. We intend on doing this at the same time as the PC and MAC release. However, if developing for all 4 platforms at the same time becomes more than we can handle, we will focus first on PC and MAC and then finish out with iOS and Android after the initial release.

Where is the kickstarter money going?

The $10,000 goal is absolute minimum what it will take to ensure we are able to deliver a quality product.

$3,000 is going to the programming and development team to help offset the costs of actually making the game.

$2,000 is going to various artists to provide the artwork and art assets for the cards themselves.

$2,000 for voice actors, musicians, and audio editors to supply the game with all the nifty sounds that it will need.

$1,000 will go towards marketing and promotion to help ensure the game makes it through the first year of life after launch.

$1,000 petty cash for any unforeseen expenses that pop up during production.

$1,000 anticipated loss between Kickstarter taking their percentage, cancelled donations, etc.

 *This level of funding will ensure that the first expansion does in fact get created. It will, however, not be released directly with launch. Please allow another 1 or 2 months after launch for the addition of this expansion.

 *We will add the details for further stretch goals if/when the first one is reached.

Risks and challenges

What are the risks and challenges that come with completing your project, and how are you qualified to overcome them?

We have spent a good deal of time (many years in fact) thinking about this game and building the team that would be required to make it a reality.

The biggest risk that we face is the chance the game will not be finished in the anticipated time frame. We will do everything we can to ensure this does not happen, but there are things in life that can happen out of our control, and if any of these things happen to pop up on us we will still get the game finished it could just take a bit longer. If at any time it looks like we will be facing a significant delay for some reason we will do our best to recruit more team members to offset the delay.
