The mainframe of Man of the Stars is shaped by these cores :
Science Fiction : Space is the final frontier, and technology will ensure the fulfillment of your destiny.
Multiplayer : Our universe is vast and will be populated by many players.
PVP-PVE : These players will compete against each other but also in cooperation to challenge the worlds.
Open World, Sandbox and Survival : Each world is procedurally generated, you will have to gather its resources to live and to create your civilization.
As a survival sandbox game, you have the freedom to invent the story that you really want. We'll put at your disposal lore foundations through races's stories, quests, and more, that you can build upon in order to craft your destiny.
Setting our game in the survival genre, we want to bring new opportunities for limitless adventures with each of these elements we crafted at the core of our game, among others :
Limitless open world terrains : we produced a fully custom world generation system that creates vast and diverse procedural terrains, from lush forest worlds to airless moons.
Sandbox base building : After ensuring your survival on a new world, you will have to settle bases by constructing buildings and machines, and then manage them in order to develop your industries.
Customization : Each player is unique, and so should be their respective empires. It will be possible to customize your gear, base, machines, and people.
Strategy : You won't establish your empire alone, you will be aided by AIs that will work in your installations, and assist you in your military campaigns.
Massively multiplayer content : Each server will at the moment house 100 players, we plan to extend this number to 1000 players.
PVP : The main enemy in Man of the Stars can be any of the other players, crush your enemies in order to gain dominance of the universe.
PVE : The worlds will also be generous in struggles you will have to face, craft alliances with your friends in order to defeat these.
Social : War won't be the only option in Man of the Stars, alliances with player guilds, contracts, and many more will bring cooperation among the stars.
Trade : Production and Demand are core principles of any civilization, commercial operations will strengthen your empire.
These features, in coordination with many more, will bring countless opportunities you will be able to choose in order to shape your path in Man of the Stars.
Right after the players, the essential component of Man of the Stars is the environment, immense worlds to travel across, to claim and to reshape. That is why we made it so the terrains you will step on are huge and content abundant.
To ensure this wealth, we built an entirely procedural world creation system. Input in it are numerous environmental profiles we created, may it be a desert world, lush with plants, or devoid of atmosphere. These profiles direct the terrain geography, its composition, its flora, fauna, and events occurring on it.
This system generates an infinite variety of alternatives to the world you will set foot on, assuring a game experience without limits.
Your action in the game won’t be restricted to only one world, on the contrary, it is the whole universe that will be offered to you : the worlds are connected by a portal system, you won’t explore one planet at a time, but an entire network instead.
After the first sip of the water of your new world (so long as it has been made drinkable), you will have to expand your installations on the land.
First a shelter from the weather conditions, then other buildings, to house the activities that you will add one after the other : resources refinement, tools production, machine construction that will allow you to construct more complex machines, equipment creation, technologies research, nutrition, sanitation, entertainment, transports, infrastructures, robotics, cloning.
For you won’t be alone to ensure your base operations : workers of multiple functions and forms will put themselves at your disposal to fulfill the tasks required by a developing society.
You will have multiple means to recruit your workforce : jobs offers, mercenary, voluntary work, allegiances, debt collection, slavery, robotics and cloning. Like you, in order to live, these workers, depending on what they are, will have needs to fulfill.
As the leader of your colony, the duty of administrating your teams will rely upon you.
Players will have the opportunity to shape their game experience to their liking. On the aestethic side you will have the freedom to chose a large array of the appearance of your armor, your vehicles, your machines or your weapons to name but a few. The gameplay also will be tweakable at your convienance by modular combinations of the weapons in your arsenal, or the machines of your industry.
Your base won’t remain isolated for long, your actions will trigger the appetite of your neighbors.
In order to survive you will thus have to defend yourself against their attacks, or even strike first yourself, as conquering an adversary will advance your empire.
Numerous weapons and gears will be at your disposal to crush your enemies, but there is strength in numbers, and among the people working for you, you can count on soldiers to reinforce your military potential. Tactical control of these units and strategic maneuvers will set your supremacy over your opponents.
We crafted a complex neural system that dictates the IA of your workers :
Many of your allies and enemies will be players themselves, and they will be the most precious tactical elements.
Among your workforce or in your squad, besides your workers, you will find your friends, cooperate with them in order to establish the best attack plan, or the most efficient exploitation method.
Your empire won’t have to be dictated by your solitary magnanimity, you could share your power amidst your friends.
Play a part in the geopolitics of the universe. Use diplomacy in the relationships you and your friends will entertain with the players community.
Alliances and wars will arise by your choices. Conflicts can range from the attack of an other player controlled outpost, where is stored precious minerals, to the more socially accepted betting on the best racer on the arenas of the neutral Capital World that houses social interactions between players.
Players won’t be the only entities that you’ll have to fight or work with.
The universe is stuffed with lifeforms that you will encounter during your expansion. Each world is inhabited by creatures varying in shape and intelligence. You will interact with simple animals in order to survive, may it be defending yourself from them or eating them, by hunting or livestock farming.
There are also intelligent beings that established their own civilizations that you will be able to communicate with. Diplomacy again will be required to interact with these individuals. Economic and military alliances will emanate from the complex social networks you will shape with them.
These cultures also know the way of warfare, you could then prefer the aggressive approach to reach your goals.
Between independent entities and environmental hazards, the worlds will be also infested with dangerous monsters you could defeat with your military forces, in order to obtain rewards and treasures.
In order to profit from all the work you put into gathering the wealth of your planets, we established a neutral planet on each server dedicated to commercial interactions. This planet is controlled by an advanced race that promotes cooperation between factions above warfare.
At your arrival simple merchant, you will have the opportunity to establish your commercial empire by setting trading posts and manipulate the market.
Your fellowship of friends will be able to reunite by the means of guilds. Obtaining offices on these worlds will allow other players to propose you military or industrial contracts. All of the players of the universe can gather in these places to sell, buy, and find partners to accomplish their projects.
The stars are the limit, raise your empire and seize the universe.
Let's pick some examples of what you'll be able to do in Man of the Stars :
All of your stuff, may it be material, resources, or even people, need to move between each of your bases. One of the transportation system we included is a railway construction infrastructure.
Your friends will help you in your fights, but we also wanted to reinforce your combat potential with AI soldiers who will respond to your orders.
One of the tasks you can assign to your AIs workers is the production of goods, for instance the food required to nourish your staff.
The machines that constitute your infrastructure will need to be powered in order to function proprerly. The way you will dispatch energy throughout your base will have an important impact on your manufacturing outcome.
In order to enrich the adventures you will live on the numerous worlds of Man of the Stars we designed a questing system that will allow the NPCs inhabitants to offer you diverse missions to fulfill on their homeworlds and abroad.
By acomplishing these quests the NPCs will reward you with numerous prises, may it be artifacts, intelligence, or members of their communites to help you in war or in industry.
The backbone of a survival multiplayer game is the human aspect, that is to say the community.
We want to give the best emphasis possible on our relation with the players, both in the game and on the platforms around it.
During the development we will put in place a devblog, allowing you to follow our progress in the shaping of the game. The link will also be powered by our presence on the social networks. As well as a forum on our website and a dedicated Discord server.
We will also give you the power to reshape the game, as we plan to allow the players the modding of the game.
We are Oblatif Games, a small french game studio founded a year ago for the development of Man of the Stars. The studio was founded by Alexandre Callegari as he wanted to create rich universes where players could fully immerse themselves.
Alexandre graduated as a 3D engineer and worked in the research and development of embarked systems. Passionate about 3D art, AI, space and science-fiction, he wished to merge work and passion by creating Oblatif games. He also loves to pet his cat's round head.
The rest of our team is composed of the following members :
Thibault Coutaz is the developper. he always wanted to join a indie project from the beginning and help it to grow from A to Z. He is open to every critics and always happy to learn new stuff. in his free time he likes to eat banana. He also likes to cook pasta and rice as construction material.
Anthony Rubier is the concept artist and lead 3D artist. Beginning as an illustrator after fine arts studies he wanted to add his touch in the whole process of a video game development. Sci-fi and horror movies made him the way he is. Contrary to Alexandre, he prefers dogs.
Jason De Loos is before all a passionate. Self learner, he joined us in the middle of the adventure to reinforce our art team. He's in charge of 3D Asset and Character creation working hand in hand with Anthony to bring you the Best visuals. In his free time he's working to get better character and props and to evolve in his passion.
We will release Man of the Stars digitally on PC on Steam during Q2 2019. We plan to port the game to Xbox One and PS4 if the stretch goal corresponding to this if obtained. Otherwise, we will do the port as soon as our resources will allow it !

150k € Goal : The PVE dungeons will be even more hazardous ! We'll create raids where 10 players will be required in order to defeat the bosses and challenges within ! Not only that, but we will also install a modding system for Man of the Stars !
200k € Goal : The impact you will have on the worlds will be even greater ! It will be possible through terraformation to modify them the way you want them to be ! From airless rocks to lush jungles.
300k € Goal : The portals won't be your only mean to travel between worlds anymore ! Real travel through space will be available, in spaceships !
Risks and challenges
As for any game, during the release Man of the Stars may contain some bugs and and glitches.
The development we achieved was focused on the core systems of the game and their functioning. We managed to resolve the technological challenges surrounding their integration.
The core mechanics of the game are operational, our next objective is to continue the production of the game assets (monsters, props, weapons …) in order to release a generous and furnished game.
