In order to change a problem, e.g. unwanted noise emitted by an item in your surroundings, you first have to understand it. SOUNDCAM will localize the problem by imaging the analyzed sound source on the touchscreen. That way, you’ll know immediately which issues to fine-tune.

Existing acoustic cameras are only affordable for major companies. These systems are very complex and an acoustical engineer is necessary for operation. Yet there are so many applications in our daily life. That’s why we’ve decided to integrate that same technology in an intuitive, handheld, low-cost device, making it available for a broader market.
SOUNDCAM consists of 64 microphones, an optical camera, an integrated data acquisition and analysis system, as well as a display and control unit with touchscreen and hardware buttons. The system displays high-resolution results in real time on the screen. What makes it so special is its high speed and accuracy.
How it works
Sound propagates as a wave at a certain speed, which means that sound needs a certain amount of time to propagate from a noise source to each microphone of the array. Depending on each microphone’s position, the sound wave will need varying travel times. The algorithm running on SOUNDCAM analyzes these time delays and calculates accurate acoustic pictures and videos in real time.
At the same time, an optical camera is used to generate the needed optical information, and optical and acoustic pictures are overlayed. These overlayed results are displayed on the screen: the so-called acoustic pictures or videos.

We’re an ambitious team of mechanical, electrical, automation, computer sciences and acoustical engineers. As experts in sound and vibration, we have more than 30 years’ experience in the field. We’ve been working on sound source localization systems for more than 15 years and have engineered precise measuring devices for medium-sized companies and international corporations. Our expertise ranges from product development and know-how to managing manufacturers and suppliers. Production and quality control are carried out in-house.
Basic research on sound source imaging technology started in 2005.
Over the last years, we have developed this technology to a high-end level, improving every detail from usability and accuracy to production costs.

Why We Are Here
We spotted the lack of noise control that negatively impacts our daily lives. As sound and vibration experts, we recognized how valuable this technology would be to improve life sustainably. That’s why we wanted to make it available for everybody.
We have the technology to help you analyze and understand any problem caused, for example, by unwanted noise. We want to integrate this powerful system in a handheld device and make it affordable for everyone. So we invested in our research and worked hard for the past two years to develop SOUNDCAM. Our latest prototype now just needs some fine-tuning. More importantly, we need your support to produce the device cost-effectively. In return, you’ll be the first to receive SOUNDCAM.
Moreover, you’ll be helping to raise awareness that noise is a problem which affects our quality of life. People usually think that it’s an unchangeable fact of life, but there’s really something we can do about it. Risks and challenges
We have 30+ years’ experience in developing measurement systems and devices, so the overall risk is extremely low. The main goal of this project is setting up the supply chain for this new device in order to guarantee high quality at low prices.
Several generations of working prototypes exist. The electronics are finished and the housing is solid. On the latest prototype, we mounted a rugged tablet for operation, but this proved too expensive for the final product. The components to replace the tablet are now ready to be integrated into the device. This means we need to develop a solid housing for the new display unit.
We have stable software running on our prototypes. Minor improvements will be carried out to make usability truly awesome.
Quality Made in Germany:
As a Germany-based company, high quality is part of our DNA. We made sure that the hardware is solid and durable, and the software is usable intuitively. Further detailed tests will be run to ensure that all components work together properly.
All devices will be assembled, calibrated and checked before delivery in our facility – quality made in Germany.
We mostly work with German national and local suppliers to ensure full control over the supply chain. We have longstanding partnerships with many of them.
For this particular project, the supply chain plays a major role in ensuring both the low price and the high quality.
We have planned everything carefully and included time buffers. Of course, even the most well-planned manufacturing processes can encounter unexpected challenges. In case of unexpected delays, we will keep you updated.
