Going the self-publishing route is exciting and rewarding in its own way, but the stakes are high. On top of the countless hours, days, months, and years that we have put into One Day as a Raven, we now have to put forth all the production, design, and publication costs. With kickstarter we hope to be able to pay for our first run of books, about 100-200, and hopefully have those all pre-sold so we can get started on more. We also hope to go on a local and/or national book tour. Check out our rewards section. We would love to come and share our story, or give a talk on the writing, illustrating and self-publishing process. Thank you so much for taking the time to check out our project. Make sure and watch the video to get a taste of the look and sound of One Day as a Raven.
Risks and challenges
The risks and challenges are at the forefront of my mind as I get this kickstarter campaign going. Patrick and I are determined to get our first run of books printed no matter what. We are prepared to pay out of pocket. Doing this all ourselves means we are in total control of the process from start to finish, but there are a lot of things that are out of our control. Potential challenges we might face range from little hiccups in the design and layout, recording issues, lack of marketing, all the way to our cars breaking down when we are on our way cross country for a reading. Obstacles will present themselves, it can be counted on, but there is literally nothing that will stop Patrick and myself from making this work. I could never put into words the hopes and fears that I have been riding like waves for the last three years as I watched this story grow from an idea in its infancy into a nearly full grown product. No matter what challenges come I will not give up on this project for any reason, and I know that Patrick feels the same way. If our project is successfully funded then we will all the more fuel for our fire. Even if the project doesn't meet our goal this book is still happening. You can count on that.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
