I'm super excited to get going on this sculpture. I'll use off-loom beadweaving techniques with a needle and thread to weave a complete covering in beads from around the world onto a life-size female form. I see this project as the first in a series of beaded human figures.
Here's a pic of the miniature model I'm working on to demonstrate the process. The finished model will be a reward!
Most of my experience is in art-to-wear and jewelry. I have done one sculpture, a beaded spine, titled The Tree of Andry. It took approximately 200 hours to complete.
The funds raised will go to purchasing a life-size female mannequin, beads, and weaving supplies to complete the work and to cover costs of the rewards.
My plan is to fulfill rewards and buy all necessary supplies in January. I'll begin working on the form at the end of January and have until April uninterrupted time. Then my art show season begins and I will use the time between shows to work on the sculpture. I estimate time at 900 hours to complete. The proposed deadline is December 1st, 2013. The end goal, to submit the work to The Figure Now/Exhibition 2014 in St. Louis, Missouri.
Any additional funds I receive will go to purchasing more mannequins, more beads, and creating more rewards. *Fingers crossed!*
Risks and challenges
The only potential problem I could have is time-related. I've used the past several months to work on a solid inventory of art-to-wear for the upcoming Spring and Summer shows. Basing the time it took to complete the spine model, I believe I have planned and scheduled work accordingly to get the project done by the deadline.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
