Legendary, award-winning (yet none-the-less fake) country duo, Doyle and Debbie, are about to record their legendary, award-winning soundtrack album for their upcoming legendary*, award-winning** feature film.
A NOTE FROM THE DOYLE AND DEBBIE SHOW CREATOR, BRUCE ARNTSON:
Jenny Littleton and I have been portraying the country duo Doyle and Debbie since June of 2005, when we first performed my musical comedy, The Doyle and Debbie Show, upstairs at Bongo Java Coffee House in Nashville. Since then we’ve performed hundreds of shows in numerous cities to rave reviews. In 2012, we won Chicago’s top theater award, the Jeff Award, for Best Musical Production--midsize, after an 8-month run at Chicago’s Royal George Theatre.
We still perform the show weekly in Nashville, and I’m not exaggerating when I say we (including Matt Carlton as long-suffering bandleader, Buddy) have just as much fun doing it now as we did eight years ago. We still feel like naughty children getting away with something. So now I’ve written a screenplay and a dozen new songs for a Doyle and Debbie movie. My filmmaker buddy and longtime collaborator, Coke Sams, will direct. His partner Clarke Gallivan and Ruckus Film will produce. Our goal is to shoot some time next year.
Recording the songs will be the first step in pre-production, so we’re not just recording an album: we’re jump-starting our movie.
Award-winning producer/guitarist Colin Linden (Emmylou Harris, Bob Dylan, Robert Plant, T-bone Burnett, Coen Bros., Buddy Miller, Cassandra Wilson, Diana Krall, etc.) has joined forces with us and will produce the songs. He has assured me they will all sound just like hits.
As an under-the-radar showbiz phenomenon, The Doyle and Debbie Show has been kept alive these past eight years by the generosity of our friends and a big bunch of hard-core fans. We’ve already been humbled by that, so asking you for more isn’t as hard as you might think. So please check out the pledge categories on the right and pick one that suits you.
Thanks for keeping us on the stage, and thanks in advance for helping us ride the dream a little further.
Risks and challenges
We hope to populate our movie, as well as the album, with a handful of “legit” country stars. Some have already signed on—others remain on our wish list. We’ll let you know soon who they are. Shooting and recording will have to work around multiple schedules, so timing of this endeavor is a bit elastic. But we’re all focused on bringing this project to fruition as soon as possible. We’re on it.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
