Choreographers Kate Ladenheim (The People Movers) and Chelsea Robin Lee (Virtuosic Dance Project) are collaborating as producers and choreographers for a show on September 14th and 15th, 2012 at Triskelion Arts Center in Brooklyn, NY.
Kate and Chelsea decided that in order to continue moving forward and improving as artists, they need to produce finished work in a professional setting. Many festivals for emerging choreographers only allow for about ten minutes of work, whereas the two emerging choreographers wanted more time to explore ideas and concepts. Self-producing was the next step in their process to further develop as young dance artists.
Lee, Director of Virtuosic Dance Project founded the company in 2010, inspired by contemporary modern styles and incorporating video and photography in her work. Since its inception, Virtuosic Dance Project has performed internationally at many high profile dance festivals, including Fresh Blood in Toronto, The Guelph Contemporary Dance Festival, the Young Choreographer's Festival at Symphony Space in New York City and will be presented at the DUMBO Dance Festival and Your Move Dance Festival in Jersey City this coming fall.
Boston Conservatory trained choreographer Ladenheim, also highly influenced by contemporary-modern styles, founded her project based company The People Movers in 2012. Ladenheim’s work has been presented at the Reverb Dance/APAP 2012 Festival in New York City, as well as The Boston Conservatory, Greenspace Studios, and WAXworks at Triskelion Arts Center. Her company The People Movers will be presented at the inaugural Boston Contemporary Dance Festival and the DUMBO Dance Festival this coming fall.
Proceeds from the fundraiser will go towards the costs of renting a theater, renting rehearsal space, and providing stipends for the dancers and other collaborating artists.
