It's been about a year and a half since Konrad Keele and Andrew Earley first brainstormed about combining a community-oriented live music venue with the vegan diner concept Andrew had been working on for a decade. When the iconic 666 South State Street location became available, it was far too good of an opportunity to pass up. From that point on, it’s been full steam ahead. Our remodel is nearly complete and we need your help to finish the kitchen and get cooking! Mark of the Beastro is almost a reality!
Andrew and Konrad have used our initial seed money to purchase restaurant, sound, and lighting equipment, remodel the interior, and work out the kinks in the restaurant menu. Our final push involves getting the construction plans approved by the city, installing the commercial hood, Building an ADA compliant restroom, and finishing the gas plumbing.
Our music venue The Beehive, has quickly become a staple in the Salt Lake music scene. In addition to tons of local talent, we’ve also been lucky to have legends like London punk icons Sham 69, or party icon Cupcakke play at The Beehive. We host everything from EDM to Hip-hop to country and ska.
One of the most unique parts of The Beehive is our commitment to our community. Local LGBT artist collective Mothcloset uses a studio space in our basement as home base. We’ve been lucky to feature performances by musicians in local youth programs like The Music Garage, Rock and Roll Camp for Girls, and School of Rock. We’re building a reputation as one of Utah’s most accessible and diverse music venues, and look forward to bringing you even more once Mark of the Beastro is finally complete.
In addition to the work mentioned above, a fraction of the support we receive through this campaign will go toward some finishing touches for The Beehive. Renovating the bathrooms has been a long time coming. Also on the list is more lighting equipment, and additional mics, cables, and stands.
The Beehive and Mark of the Beastro have always been a community space. Our goal is to be an outlet for creativity, and a gathering space for family and friends. This Kickstarter is all about maximizing what we can do with this space. With your help, we can continue to be a part of the community for many years to come. We appreciate everyone taking the time to check our campaign! A huge thanks for anyone who’s donated to our past campaign, can help with this one, especially everyone who comes out to shows to hang out and to help. We are so excited about the future of The Beehive and The Beastro, and look forward to seeing everyone soon!
Thanks so much from Andrew, Konrad, and the entire Beehive Crew.
Risks and challenges
The biggest risks that we foresee is simply our limited resources. The city has been excellent in their review process and we expect very little resistance from them moving forwards, but our overall project has taken quite a bit longer than we expected, which in turn has cost us a lot of our initial funding. We have broken down our expenses and the timeframe that we have to work on them, and we're confident that we haven't missed any big monkey wrenches. We believe that approaching our project in manageable chunks is our best bet, and this is our biggest one, which is why we've come to our community for help.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
