This funding effort is to facilitate our summer activities (concerts and workshops). The concerts will help show our community what we're about, garner more community support, and attract more participants! Our performances are free to the public, but most of them will cost us money for things like truck rental, tent rental, insurance, administrative fees, etc.

So far, we have performances scheduled at the MoPOP (formerly the EMP), our regular program concert (June 14th), Maplewood School (with their band and orchestra on June 15th), Lynndale Elementary School (June 16th), Shoreline Arts Festival (June 24th), and the Edmonds Arts Commission's summer concerts in the park in Edmonds (Aug. 6th). We are also hosting the 1st annual "Edmonds Waterfront Steelband Festival" on July 20th, and this will require us to rent a large tent. More performances forthcoming. Also look for us at the Taste of Edmonds and Lynnwood's "Fair on 44th."

We are also providing the steel band classes for the Edmonds School District's "Summer Music School," a three-week day camp for kids, and we'll be hosting a one-week intensive for kids and adults through the Edmonds Parks & Rec Dept.

Al of these events are geared towards community exposure to raise awareness about our program. We appreciate the help!

Risks and challenges

In the first year of offering our program, with our small but highly dedicated group of participants, we have operated at a loss. Grants from several foundations and some individual donations have sustained us through this first year, but grant monies are running low, and we are trying to bridge the gap until next September, when we anticipate a larger participant base.
