Nindy is a 13 yr old girl sold to a brothel by her mother: alone and exploited in the worst ways possible. She comes face-to-face with Winston, a lonely 60 year old whiskey bootlegger, spawning a series of events which--no matter the outcome--provides something genuine in a very dark, in-genuine world.
"Nindy" goes into production in fall of 2010 in East Kalimantan, Borneo, Indonesia. The production consists of a five person crew shooting on Super16mm. "Nindy" will be spoken in native Indonesian language with local actors.
Funding raised will cover film, processing and post. Equipment rental and expendables. Air and land transportation of crew, camera, sound and gaffing equipment from Singapore to Borneo. Craft services, room, location, crew and actor payment.
"I was doing casting in East Kalimantan, already having been told there was no acting base there whatsoever. I went to a once-a-year youth theater performance in search of my Nindy character. It was in a gymnasium venue, everyone sat on the floor, cockroaches scuttling about, jam-packed and boiling hot. During the performance the kids in the crowd were yelling and cheering so often--and without a sound system--there was no way of following the story. I don’t know what other filmmakers would do, but screaming, sweating and cockroaches considered, I knew I'd chosen the right place to make a film." -Corey Kupfer
