Supervillain of the Day is a series of superhero parody novellas. The first season consists of six novellas that have been published throughout the year. Now that the first "season" is complete it's time to release them all in one finished volume. But rather than just republishing the same stories you've read already, we decided to make something special. A collector's edition, so to speak. Something you want to put on your shelves, even if you already own the series or generally prefer ebooks.
What is Supervillain of the Day?
The series is a unique attempt to bridge the gap between graphic novels and traditional novels. In a world where novels seem to get longer by the year many people don't have the time or attention span to sit down and read all the latest and greatest epics. Supervillain of the Day is based on the idea that books don't have to take years to write and weigh as much as your grandmother's urn to be an enjoyable read.
Each novella is about 20,000 words (which comes to around 100 pages) and can be read easily in an afternoon. Rather than waiting years between releases there are approximately half a dozen “episodes” released each year. Each story is designed to standalone, as well as weave together with the others to form an ongoing story.
What appeals most to superhero fans of all shapes and sizes is the comedic nature of the series. Supervillain of the Day is intended as a parody of superhero fiction; and who doesn't love to occasionally make fun of the things they're most fond of? Tropes, conventions, and stereotypes are all examined in a brand new light.
Why a Kickstarter? Aren't you releasing the omnibus anyway?
Yes, since the books are already written I would be releasing an omnibus of some kind anyway. However, the product I'd be able to produce one my own wouldn't be the sort of cool I'm able to offer if we succeed in raising funds on Kickstarter. The money will go to cover the cost of hiring artists for the illustrations and for the expense of producing hardback collector's editions. The hardbacks are available only through the kickstarter; if we fail we'll be producing paperbacks only.
What's included in the omnibus that I don't have already?
I'm glad you asked that! Offering all six books in one volume allows us to give you a substantial discount. Each novella individually costs $2.99, while the ebook version of the omnibus will be only $11.99, a 25% percent discount! And by funding this kickstarter you can get it for only $9.99, half of what it costs to accumulate the novellas individually!
The print versions are going to be unique "collector editions" with brand new cover art, unique title pages, and illustrations. Multiple artists have been commissioned to bring each story to life in a brilliant pencil sketch. There will be six illustrations altogether, one for each novella in the series.
And finally, for the die-hard collector, there will be a limited edition hardcover available only through this kickstarter! Hardcover editions are perfect for putting on your shelf since the print quality is better, and you don't have to deal with those persnickity curling pages!

Having reached basic funding in less than 24 hours it's time for some additional goodies! After some hard thinking, here's what we've come up with!
Additional Art -- Floyd's home city is a magical place known as "The City of a Thousand Spires." Fan artist Elizabeth Kirkwood is working on a pull-out illustration of this city that will be included in the backs of all books purchased at the $15 level and above once we reach our first stretch goal of $275
Additional Stories -- There is an unfinished short story that takes place between Books 4 and 5, explaining how Floyd lost his job at the London Star and ended up working at Scotland Yard. We will finish this story and add it to the omnibus once we reach our second stretch goal of $350!
Music Album -- People have mentioned producing a soundtrack for Supervillain of the Day, and we're going to do exactly that! "Music Inspired by Supervillain of the Day" is now in the planning stages. A digital download will be added to all backers at the $7 level and above, and a physical CD will be included at the $50 level and above. A physical CD is also available as an add-on for $10 at any level. This special feature will be produced once we reach our stretch goal of $500.
Additional Music -- No, it doesn't stop with just an album! The initial album we have planned is very simple; about 3-4 tracks. For every $50 we raise about the initial $500, however, we'll add another track, up to a total of 12 tracks!

About the Artists
Meaghan Ward is the artist for three of the illustrations appearing in the omnibus version of Season 1: “I Don’t Have a Plan (Book 1),” “I can take you as far as the middle-of-nowhere (Book 4),” and “The Glassman (Book 3).”
Shaun McAlpine is the artist for the other three illustrations appearing in the omnibus, including Book 2, Book 5, and Book 6.
BushMaid is designing the omnibus cover art. You can get a sneak peek at her amazing art by viewing the cover for the upcoming Christmas Short Story "Silent Night."
Risks and challenges
Since all six novellas have already been written and half the illustrations are already completed, most of the work for the project is already done. The biggest risk involved in production being delayed, usually due to technical and scheduling issues. We're hoping to have the ebook version released on or around January 1st, and the print versions sometime in the month after that. But we want to make sure we offer you the best possible quality, especially with hardcover copies, so it could be as late as February or March.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
