I'm fundraising to help with production and recording costs for my 5th solo album! Specifically: recording/mixing with Seth Lorinczi in his amazing analog-heavy studio, mastering the finished album, pressing limited edition vinyl (which I'm excited about for the ART potential and the warm LP sound). The record will come out in Spring of 2012 and will be a partial self release (as in I'm funding the costs) and distributed/promoted on my favorite local label Jealous Butcher Records (thank you Rob Jones!). I have additional costs (over double what i'm trying to raise here), such as publicity, making a music video, and tour support, which would be INCREDIBLE to get funded on Kickstarter, so if I've reached my goal please still consider donating, I would be so grateful! I truly have relied on the generosity and support of my fan base over my 20 year career in independent music, and can't say how much I am aware of my good fortune in this regard - I am a FAN of my fans!
This video you see here was shot by Moira Morel, edited by the most beautiful and brilliant Sarah Gertrude Shapiro, assistant edited by me, "tightened up" by Donna Dresch (after she graciously gave me a crash course in FCP!), and filmed on location (thanks to Cynthia Star) at La Finquita del Buho, CSA, Helvetia Oregon.THANK all those people for their radically GENEROUS help making it!
The Story of this record:
I am making my 5th solo record, it took 6 years to make. In those years I experienced the death of loved ones, intense loss like feeling my heart being pulled from my chest, 37 days straight of rain, 8 moves within my city of Portland, relationships ending, bands ending, bands starting, working minimum wage and hard labor jobs, surfing on a lovely beach in Mexico right after a major (caffeine induced) panic attack, becoming mildly obsessed with ping pong, seeking meaning from super old trees, writing music about all of this and at the end of those 6 years finding love that brought my heart back into my body. The recording of this album is unique; a mixture of songs recorded in my bedroom, first takes, minimal and personal, contrasted by songs recorded in an analog-heavy studio, onto 1/2 tape, featuring guest musicians Jody Bleyle & Marci Martinez (Team Dresch), Amanda Lawrence (Norfolk and Western) on viola/cello, and Seth Lorinczi (Golden Bears/The Corin Tucker Band) on organ and castanets (!). Of all my previous solo work I am most proud of this body of songs, in lyrical content, general musicality and in the preciousness and effort put into recording each song as it's own little creature.
