The Angels in America 20th Anniversary Symposium will provide the Philadelphia community with a never-before-available opportunity to see both parts I and II of Angels in America in repertory. Enlisting the help of both BCKSEET Productions and Action AIDS, the month-long endeavor will include guided discussions with area-experts on the topics of HIV/ AIDS and provide much-needed awareness-advocacy and prevention-discussion for the rising crisis within the Philadelphia community. We will hold over 20 performances throughout the run, Wednesdays through Saturdays from October 28 through November 28, 2009, with the opportunity to see both parts on Saturdays. Additionally, we will offer weekly forums, as well as visit universities, community organizations, and senior centers. In line with the thrust of our mission, we will educate, entertain and enlighten with this project, charting the epidemic over the past twenty years, improving our community through socially-relevant arts endeavors.
BCKSEET produces theatre that educates, enlightens, and entertains. Our educational programming trains Philadelphia’s next generation of professionals, the cornerstone of which is BCKSEET's Ani Memorial Fund that supports promising students. On each production, BCKSEET collaborates with community organizations to raise awareness and funds, linking thematic elements of socially relevant plays to contemporary struggles. Using original scores, atmospheric set design, and multi-disciplinary collaborations, we immerse audiences within a unique theatrical experience. Since 1999, BCKSEET has staged 20 critically acclaimed productions, built a loyal following (over 2000 patrons), and sponsored dozens of symposia expanding awareness for those charities and activist organizations we support.
