Cook Eat Slovenia is more than just a cookbook. It presents the culinary tradition of a nation and the legacy of my family. This book will be packed with treasured recipes that have been in my family for generations.
Inside, you’ll find more than 100 recipes and tips for cooking traditional Slovenian food, and much more.
Food has always played an important role in my family and I’m continuing that legacy. I learned how to cook the old-fashioned way, by watching my mom and grandma in the kitchen and helping my dad and granddad to prepare, cure, grill and roast meats. They passed on to me the passion and enthusiasm for food and Slovenian cuisine.
My story started four years ago, when I launched Cook Eat Slovenia.
My dream was to present traditional Slovenian food to travelers through my cooking classes in Ljubljana, serving them up an experience they would treasure for a lifetime. They cook with me, a local girl who teaches them how to prepare food we eat at home, for everyday or festive occasions. Over the years, I’ve hosted hundreds of happy foodies from around the world who have attended my cooking classes.
Now my dream is to bring traditional Slovenian recipes to the world and to help the world discover Slovenian food. With my first cookbook, everyone will be able to bring Slovenian recipes home.
Cook Eat Slovenia, the cookbook, is divided into recipes based on the four seasons. Each recipe tells a story and illuminates our cooking philosophy, our fresh and local ingredients and the family stories behind the dishes.
I believe that food connects people and sharing these culinary traditions with you is my dream. I’ve been passionate about food and cooking since I was little. I want to pass on the legacy of my family, traditional Slovenian recipes that have been in my family for generations.
Most of the recipes have never been written down, just kept in the head, till now. I want to bring back the romance of old traditions with some almost-forgotten recipes and most recognized Slovenian dishes. Amazing, diverse and simple traditional Slovenian recipes that I know you’ll love.
The recipes are just one part of it. It’s really about a love for food, for cooking, for eating, which is at the heart (and the stomach) of family life.
This cookbook will present my beautiful country’s unique culinary heritage, as shown through a collection of delicious recipes, the food I’ve eaten since I was a little girl.
I would love to bring traditional Slovenian cuisine to your table, so you can cook and eat with your family and friends and discover Slovenian culture through food.
Slovenian food is easy to like—love at first bite! Now’s your chance to cook it at home.
The dream of making a cookbook grew in me since I started my cooking workshops. But I want to make sure that the cookbook is just what I want it to be. This is why I prefer to publish it myself, rather than go with a traditional publisher. But that is why I’m here—I need your help to make it happen!
There are a lot of components to a great, professional-level book, and since I want to “cook up” this cookbook myself, I’ll have to organize it all. I’m happy to give my time and knowledge with big support of my family. With professional food photographer I’ve taken what I hope you’ll agree beautiful photos of the dishes, styled by me and my mother, Branka. I enjoyed in all the preparation of the cookbook and collecting the traditional pots to show you also this part of Slovenian tradition.
WHY I NEED YOUR HELP
After one year of cooking and taking photos of the dishes the biggest cost for me present printing. So naturally, we’ve gone the Kickstarter route to raise the funds necessary and put together some very cool rewards for early supporters. Your support will cover the cost of printing for 500 cookbooks, all the other costs (production, photography, ingredients, translation, editing, design and layout) I cover by myself.
You’ve heard of Slovenia, which has been called the most beautiful country on the planet.
Slovenia is nestled between Italy, Austria, Croatia and Hungary. It is the only country in Europe that combines the Alps, the Mediterranean, the Pannonian Plain and the Karst limestone plains. Within a tiny square mileage truly lies a hidden gem for foodies, with 24 culinary regions in which, over the centuries, culinary influences have merged with local tastes to form a unique, diverse and distinct Slovenian cuisine.
This will be more than just a cookbook that brings traditional Slovenian dishes and stories to your kitchens. It will be also your travel guide to an amazing culinary destination, my beautiful little country of Slovenia.
YOUR SUPPORT MEANS THE WORLD TO ME
With your support, this cookbook will come to life. Support it now and get all the delicious recipes and family stories.
Your contribution is so important, but I also need your help spreading my story to your friends, so they can support the project, too.
Thank you for making this cookbook a reality and thank you for helping me achieve my dream, to bring traditional Slovenian cuisine to kitchens worldwide.
Thank you for your support!

Risks and challenges
As with all big dreams, they require a lot of hard work, a lot of thought and creativity, a good measure of bravery to put yourself out there…and I’ve put in all of that. In terms of risks, well, there pretty much are none. The recipes are almost all written and tested, tried and true--my family has cooked them for generations. I need to send all my materials to the translator and the editor before the final design, and then it will be actually printed and distributed to you! It’s just a matter of the logistics of making the cookbook a reality. The only risk would be not meeting my Kickstarter goal. Everything else is sorted.
