About this project
AN INTRODUCTION TO OUR BAND
Hello Ladies and Gents! We are three lasses from Brighton; Corrine (the sassy Blonde), Elizabeth (the sultry brunnette) and Nastazia (the fiery redhead) and together we make up vocal harmony trio 'The Speakeasy Three'.
We got together to form our band in February 2012. Since then we have created some magical music and become great friends along the way. The success we have achieved over the past 8 months has been wonderful in the local area and we want to push our music to be able to do this full time and carry on playing and performing to a wider audience professionally (what we do and love best!).
We gained the accompaniment of the best swing jazz band in Brighton 'The Swing Ninjas' along with our fantastic musicians to collaborate on an amazing track by Ella Fitzgerald, called 'When I Get Low I Get High'.
To showcase the band and this wonderful song we've decided to make a decadent, all out show-stopping, raucous, throw your hats off, dance your feet off and cause some mayhem (but all with style) music video.
WHAT HAVE WE ACHIEVED SO FAR?
We've been planning this project for a while and everything we need is mostly in place. This will give you a breakdown of what we've already achieved after a lot of hard work, risk taking and can-do attitude:
Venue - We've secured the majority of the payment on a stunning venue in Brighton, The Brighton Ballroom - The venue oozes a thirties-forties pattina, has fantastic lighting and great decor that will need minimal dressing.
Equipment - We are very lucky to be using motion picture cameras, not to mention the use of lenses which have graced the screen for the last thirty years. We'll have use of cranes which will allow us to film stunning cinematic 'low to high' sequences and track anddollies which will allow for smooth camera movement as we film throughout the venue.
The use of this equipment is coming in at very much at a discounted fee thanks to a great team of producers and camera assistants pulling favours left right and centre to make things happen, and thanks to a great attitude and a real passion for wanting to take this project off the ground.
Crew - An amazing and talented crew of set designers/art department, make-up, stylists, choreographers, cameramen, camera assistants all working for nothing more than a cup of tea and cold sandwiches.
Our crew ranges from highly revered professionals in their respected fields, to passionate non-professionals who just need a little break to get noticed and make it big!
Recording - We have just completed recording the track at Black Wookie Studios near Brighton, and although its currently being mastered, it already sounds great! We expect to have the track mastered before the shoot in December.
Aside from the expense of recording (and the time and untold effort from everyone involved) the cost of the venue is unfortunately a favour too far to be able to secure for free. This has cost us the majority of our budget (£1150) which was funded by the band and director chipping in what they could.
What do we need from you?
With the venue secured and equipment already sourced, most of the big overheads are covered, but with over 100 extras and crew not to mention the band shooting for 12 hours, we are worried about people running on empty. Because of all the hard work put in and no money being exchanged between anyone we want everyone to be well fed and at the very least cover their expenses as we feel its the least we can do. We dont expect to feed everyone breakfast, lunch and dinner, but a hot meal and a beer at the end of the day will go a long way!
Having worked so hard and for so long bringing everyone together we would hate to fall short on keeping everyone that is making this happen happy throughout this process and on the day of shooting.
If you've read this far, all we can say is thank you for hearing us out and we hope that you can make a donation, however small, to help fund our project. Your support really would mean a great deal to a lot of people - not just on the day of the shoot but for helping individuals develop their skills and to explore passions that they hope to one day call their career.
All that's left is for Elizabeth to say thank you in the only way a picture can.......
Risks and challenges
We know that getting the funding will not be the end of the road as the shoot itself will present a few challenges. 12 hours of shooting seems like a lot for a 3 and half minute video but with painstaking attention to detail needed, complex camera movements and choreography in mind we are mindful that we need to put the work in before the shoot to ensure smooth running on location. As its a performace based music video, we will be fully storyboarded and shooting strictly with the edit in mind, so transitions from shot to shot will be taken into account on the day. Whatever time we have left at the end of the day provided no on is ready to drop dead, is to shoot our B-storyboard comprising all the shots considered too time consuming or lofty to form part of the main storyboard. Although we anticipate coming up with ideas on the day, we will make every effort to shoot for safety and then if time allows, go crazy with the amazing equipment we have!
We have also organized a rehearsal day a week prior to the shoot with key members of the ensemble cast, to ensure choreography is perfect on the day.
A lot of the key people within this production are not proffessionals, but aided by people with great ideas and the know how required, we know everyone can learn from each other. We feel everyone has to have their start somewhere, and what better way to do it than in at the deep-end!Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
