The Immortal (Canceled)
The last human in the galaxy is about to find out who he really is. An epic space opera filled with monsters, mystery and more monsters
The Immortal is a limited series comic/graphic novel that is part hard-boiled mystery, part sci-fi manga, and all out-of-this-world adventure. Each issue is filled with action, mystery and a new planet to explore as Z, the last human in the galaxy, unravels the mystery of his past. With your support the 1st volume of this epic saga will come to print.
Z is the last human in the universe and he doesn't really care. That's because Z has a problem – he can't remember much before yesterday. The reason? Z's occupation is killing him. Literally.
You see, Z is a bounty hunter; getting shot down is part of the job. Luckily his handy Regeneration Chamber allows him to come back and complete his work. After hunting, dying, resurrecting, hunting and dying one too many times, however, Z realizes that the hunter life is tearing him apart; his memory and his life are full of holes. So he takes on one final payday to get out of the biz. Unfortunately, things don't go as planned.
Waking up in the Regeneration Chamber, Z knows something has gone wrong. With no memory, however, he has no idea what. All he can do is follow his past life's footprints, trying to avoid his prior mistakes. Unfortunately, what Z doesn't know is that he is about to start a journey that will unravel a vast conspiracy about the death of the human race, lead him to explore far off worlds, face dangerous aliens, and eventually care about his own existence. Prepare to to enter the world of The Immortal.
There will be 8 digital issues of The Immortal. Each will be approximately 56 pages long and in black and white. The plan is to release them bi-monthly starting in October, 2015. The Immortal will also be released as 4 trade paperbacks (each containing 2 issues), starting in January, 2016. And after the whole series is complete, and if there is demand, I hope to do an oversize hardcover omnibus of the complete series.
The script for the entire series is done and the art/tone/lettering for issues 1-4 has been completed (over 220 pages). That means the first four digital issues and the first 2 trade paperbacks are ready to go.
1) Helping cover the costs to setup the series (website fees, ISBN fees, etc)
2) Paying for costs to bring Volume 1 to market (printing fees and promotion)
Now take a look at what you're helping make a reality:
I've had a lot of experience telling stories. I started off in film, graduating Chapman University's film school, and then over the next decade made 8 independent shorts and produced the Kansai International Film Festival.
In recent years, I've turned to illustration. In addition to co-publishing/co-editing Waylines Magazine in 2013, I illustrated each issue. I also was a finalist in the Illustrators of the Future contest 3 times in 2013/2014.
"My goal in life is like my goal in art - to find the story behind it all. Because everyone's got a story; they're what make us who we are. So in my art, whether it be illustration, photography, fiction or film, I want to bring out those inner workings; I want to find that ghost in the machine. " - Dariru.com
Risks and challenges
I've had a lot of experience meeting deadlines with past projects (Waylines Magazine, the Kansai International Film Festival, and directing 8 short films), so I see no problems completing the the last four issues on schedule. However, due to yet unforeseen circumstances there is always the possibility their release may be delayed.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
