Nekro is a dark, twisted action game about summoning minions in the vein of Dungeon Keeper and Myth!

4,300 backers pledged $158,733 to help bring this project to life.

Nekro: Make it or Break it!

This is it! We've come down to the final days of Nekro's Kickstarter Campaign.

We have some big news, and some important information to talk about on this final push to the finish line.

It's come down to this: We're going to keep doing as much as we can to get the word out until the very last hour of the campaign, but for now, with no big leads, we have to assume what we have is what we're going to get. This, however, isn't a bad thing. In fact, it's very good. See, we have over 2,000 backers. If you look on this very site, there are Kickstarters that have half the amount of backers we have and twice the amount of money. How is this possible? Pledge tiers.

We have over half of our backers subscribed to the $15 and $25 dollar tier. If we have even a quarter of those backers up their pledges to 50$ or above, we can make our goal. There's been a bit of confusion on what happens if the kickstarter doesn't succeed, so let me explain where we're at. I'm going to be a bit blunt and completely honest here, as I want all of you to understand exactly what's at stake.

If the kickstarter does not go through Nekro cannot happen. This is the unfortunate reality of the situation. We will not be restarting the kickstarter for a lesser amount and the game will not be coming out 'one way or another' as many seem to think. Let me explain.

The amount we are asking for is the bare minimum we need to make this game. Up to this point, myself, my partner, and the few other people working on the project have been doing so either without pay, or have been using our savings. We have put in countless nights, staying up until the sun rises, neglecting our families, sleep, and our lives. We did this because we wanted to prove to you, our backer, that we aren't just all talk; that we can make this a reality. We didn't feel right asking for money without having proof of our claims. However, the process that lead us to this point is not suited for the development of a full-scale title. If we get the $100,000, this will be used to offset the massive time demands this game is making on us by hiring more people (we will not be taking the money for ourselves at all.) However, we will still be paying for this game for the remainder of its development cycle out of our savings, even with the $100,000. Making a game of this type takes a lot more than the amount we're asking for, so know that the $100,000 is our bare minimum. A lot of people are saying we should restart the Kickstarter and ask for half the amount in the event of it's unsuccessful conclusion. The reality is, this cannot take place for the aforementioned reasons.

That's the gloom and doom part - but here's the good news. There's over 2,000 of us, and we're all passionate about this project! We have seen other Kickstarters do it with less, and we know for a fact it's possible. It comes down to you guys. The cool thing is it won't take a lot. $40,000 may look like a lot of money at a glance, but if everyone slides up their pledge tier we can easily hit the mark.

We know this is for some a difficult thing to do. So we wanted to sweeten the pot a bit and give you guys what we know you've been wanting - a box copy of the game. For the next 6 days we will be offering a special $99 dollar pledge tier just for you. Here's what you'll get for this special tier:

  • A Collector's Edition Box Copy of the game: We will only be printing this for you guys. This is a one-time offer and will not be offered again at any point. The box will be signed by the entire team and made out to you!
  • A Behind the Scenes "Making-of" DVD included in the box: Go through all of Nekro's development and see how the game grows from day-one all the way through to launch. We'll show concept art, game builds, and brainstorm sessions that will not be released to the public.
  • A Nekro iPhone/Android 'Alchemy App': View in-game models in real-time 3D, get all the stats on any unit in the game, try out different brewing combinations, test out unit stats, and read live updates about the game on this awesome portable app.
  • Get access to our Live Development Stream: We've decided we're going to stream out work on the game. Watch us make artwork, write code, talk about ideas, and even chat with us live on our stream.

Of course, anyone that's pledged higher than $99 will automatically get this new tier included in their list of rewards. Additionally, the new $99 will include all prior rewards: the soundtrack, the t-shirt, a digital download copy of Nekro as well as your name in the credits. This is a ton of content available for this price, and we're really excited to be able to offer it to you guys.

If just a quarter of our backers purchases this exiting new tier, we hit our goal. Plain and simple. We have all the backers we need to make Nekro a reality. We can hit the goal tonight if everyone makes the switch. I have no doubt we can do this and you guys should too.

If you have any questions feel free to PM me or leave a comment. As always, I'll do everything I can to help. Thanks so much for your support! We're so close to our goal. If we all band together we'll all be exploding punge corpses in no time!!

For international shipping of the $99 tier, please add $15.

      Made it! AWESOME

Saw Total Biscuits KickStarter review video and thought...why the hell not. Here's another set of crossed fingers for 1.7K in 4 days.

    3. Creator HolyHamsteR on April 29, 2012

4 days and only 5k more. I think we can safely assume we'll make it.
      Congratulations on stand-by.

      We broke 90k!

13K does not seem so far... Just a little more...

In a way its a way for KS to ensure companies set realistic goals and dont get greedy. It also allows for people who believe in the game to invest in it because if they dont succeed 100% it doesnt go through.

    7. Creator Gazz on April 28, 2012

      >If the kickstarter does not go through Nekro cannot happen.

This directly contradicts the last FAQ entry on the KS project home.
It says that there will be a less deep game with a longer development cycle, not that there won't be a game at all.

    8. Creator Florian Meinke on April 27, 2012

From 25 up to 60$, guys. Hope that helps. :)

    9. Creator Sam Porter on April 27, 2012

For about an extra £6? Hell bloody yes! :D

    10. Creator Eli Juicy Jones on April 27, 2012

I doubled my pledge! I want this game to happen.

    11. Creator darkForge on April 27, 2012

You ask we deliver. There is now a new $60 tier that is for digital downloads only. It includes the soundtrack, digital art book and game. It excludes all physical items.

    12. Creator Sam Porter on April 27, 2012

Whilst I would tend to agree, I think it's probably in everyone's best interests to have some of the more tantalising rewards a little higher up. Of course on the flip side, it's possible more pledges would come in first place if stuff like that was a little lower down.

    13. Creator UsF on April 27, 2012

Typo, I meant 50 dollar edition. Sorry.

    14. Creator UsF on April 27, 2012

I wish the soundtrack would be for the 40 dollar edition, not the 75. I do not want to shell out that much, but would be willing to go 50-60 ish (from 25) if the soundtrack was available there. :( Why is it that much more expensive! I thought an art book might cause more expenses than a soundtrack which is already pretty much in the game.

    15. Creator darkForge on April 27, 2012

We sat down and really analyzed what can be done without the money. And what you see in the update is what we came up with. It is the most recent and updated information. I'll update the FAQ to reflect this new information.

Also, we plan to do the IAmA tomorrow. That should give a few days for the process to take place.

    16. Creator Steven Matthew Vickroy on April 27, 2012

^Meh, quotes got messed up. Pretend the second quote is under "What changed?" will you? :P

    17. Creator Palahadin on April 27, 2012

I also just doubled my pledge.
      come on ppl.
reach deep we all know it is worth it

    18. Creator Steven Matthew Vickroy on April 27, 2012

"If we get the $100,000, this will be used to offset the massive time demands this game is making on us by hiring more people (we will not be taking the money for ourselves at all.) Making a game of this type takes a lot more than the amount we're asking for, so know that the $100,000 is our bare minimum."

FAQ: "If we don't make this money we will have to seriously consider toning back the game as we will be unable to hire additional artists, animators, and composers. Also, the game may take two, to three times as long to make. That means potentially about 3 years instead of 1. "

      What changed?

If 100k is to hire new talent, and you have this many backers, there's a strong likelihood that one or two people in the bunch have the skill to participate and the time to volunteer for a piece of the pie. With all the fundraising has there been any consideration given to using your backers as a pool of possible recruits as well?

    19. Creator MagnusM1 on April 27, 2012

Get Totalbiscuit to help you! He finds the game interesting and he has recommended the game before.

    20. Creator CheezyBob on April 27, 2012

I just doubled my pledge. Would hate to have this project fall through without me having given all I feel I can.

    21. Creator Rumged on April 27, 2012

The Collector's Edition Box Copy look so cool, but unfortunately i can't the 99$, really wish i could

    22. Creator David on April 27, 2012

Really impressive boost today :) I think we should be on track now. Especially when you factor in the boost all projects get in the last 3 days.

    23. Creator Nixitur on April 27, 2012

Also, I'm checking the kicktraq link that Rob posted and in the last 20 minutes, it went from trending towards 91% to trending towards 93%.
      We can do this!

    24. Creator Sean on April 27, 2012

Wow, huge leap! I'd agree on putting something on the lower tiers.....maybe introduce a $35-40 tier with an extra digital goodie?

I just hope darkForge are keeping an eye on how much it will cost to make these rewards versus how much they need for the project.

    25. Creator Nixitur on April 27, 2012

So, for international shipping of the boxed copy, I would need to pay $114? What if I go up to $125? Will I get the boxed copy and the $125 reward tier, too or would I need to go up to $139 to get both the $125 reward tier as well as the boxed copy?

    26. Creator Wesley Noble on April 27, 2012

I think you might want to make the $50 and $75 ones a bit better too, might persuade more people to make the smaller jumps, for those who can afford $50 or $75 but not $100. Just a thought.

    27. Creator Wesley Noble on April 27, 2012

Upped my pledge to $25, I can't do more, but I think it is strange that the app is at the $100 pledge, I mean if you are making it anyway you could put it on a slightly lower one.

    28. Creator Andreas Wester on April 27, 2012

You got me too. A reward to sweet to miss

    29. Creator Adam Ladly on April 27, 2012

I've upped my pledge. You got me. I really hope this works guys

    30. Creator SXX on April 27, 2012

99$ is so interesting for me.
I love to see how @notch writing his code, probably I've get that tier bit after :)

I think you need to use some video service which record everything...

    31. Creator Sam Porter on April 27, 2012

Arrg, I really wanna double up but I've no idea if my budget will allow for it! Meh, I can eat cardboard right? :P

    32. Creator JediaKyrol on April 27, 2012

I wish I could put in's just that I found this project right after Wasteland, Shadowrun, and Double-Fine took all of my monies...I'm seriously going to be subsisting on a diet of ramen and "Sam's Club" soda for the next month.

...Ah, hell! Imma bump up to $50...and drop down to the "Food Lion" brand soda

    33. Creator Patrick on April 27, 2012

Srsly. I really like the art design and everything. I really hope you guys get the money together for this awesome project.

    34. Creator Rynk on April 27, 2012

Upped my pledge. Good Luck darkForge.

@Chris, while I understand your sentiment, many people wouldn't/couldn't pledge at all if the lowest tier was say $15. I can't afford more than $15, maybe $25, because of all of the other kickstarters I've supported this month... Way to many awesome projects and instead of giving a lot to one, I've given a little to a lot.

    39. Creator Daryl Putman on April 27, 2012

The "alchemist's journal" reward, I don't really find it explained anywhere.

    40. Creator Brian Wainstein on April 27, 2012

More than doubled my pledge. Now there's a compelling reason to do it! I would suggest that you make the iphone/android app available to the $50+ tier though. You're developing the app anyway, and the marginal cost of giving it to extra people should be negligible. It's probably way easier to move people from $25 to $50 (and then once $50, why not $75, and heck, why not $99?) than from $25 to $99.

    41. Creator HolyHamsteR on April 27, 2012

Upped my pledge a bit, It would be a shame if we lost!

    42. Creator Robin Beckett on April 27, 2012

Just doubled my pledge. I want a plushie! :)

    43. Creator Chris Hinkes on April 27, 2012

If this game costs this much to make, you should have charged more than $15 to get a copy of the game. The majority of backers are going to choose the minimum to get the game.

    44. Creator Silvernis on April 27, 2012

Upped my pledge. Here's hoping there'll be something to show for it, lol. Best of luck. ^_^

    45. Creator Bobby Allen on April 27, 2012

Just doubled my pledge. I also mentioned this project in Episode 51 of Funding the Dream. Around minute 21 is a shout out to your project.

      Good Luck.

Also the last question in the faq directly contradicts what you say here.

    47. Creator Carl De Brabant on April 27, 2012

Be carefull with these things. You need 100K but now you're giving ALOT of people a boxed copy of the game which aren't free to print. You now need 100K + printing costs to get to your goal. Realworld example here:

    48. Creator darkForge on April 27, 2012

We don't intend to have the 25$ give two copies (I know that's kind of confusing) but if you intend only to use your copies for personal use (installing in multiple places etc) we have no problem sending two.

    49. Creator darkForge on April 27, 2012

For international shipping add $15 :)
