Sexy new stretch goal: $1,500.00
Due to the astounding level of support we've gotten on our first day, we have hit our initial goal in about 15 hours. If we can hit our stretch goal, we will be able to purchase video equipment, allowing us to produce periodic video content for our listeners. Also, at that level of funding, we will be able to launch Matt's next (as yet unproduced) podcast, complete with website and all the other stuff that entails. Once again, a million thanks to everyone who has supported us so far.
The Apropos of Nothing podcast has been bringing you the finest, weirdest unscripted comedy and discussion since 2010. Our goal through this Kickstarter is is to continue to raise the bar of quality for all our listeners.
Back in 2010, Matt convinced Salsa that doing a podcast with no knowledge of how creating a podcast works was a good idea. Our first episodes were recorded on Matt's laptop using the built in microphone and zero editing skills.
Over time, using our own money, donations from some generous listeners, and tips from others with more experience, we got the multi-directional Snoball mic we've been using ever since. Additionally, Matt learned a little bit about editing and leveling an audio file.
As the show got better and we got more confident, we started having guests whenever scheduling allowed. To date we've had Jick and Skully of www.kingdomofloathing.com fame, master artist Michael Birawer, indie rocker Brandon Patton, DC comics artist Chris Jones, Stand Up! Records owner Dan Schlissel and many others have all graciously agreed to spend an hour or two telling us their stories.
As our show has matured, we have felt and increasing sense of responsibility to create the best show possible, both in content and audio quality. The most notable way we have done this was the addition of Jena as our 3rd host a few months ago. Jena has brought a new perspective to the show and added more than her fair share of laughs.
So, here we are, present day AoN, and now we're turning to you, our listeners and anyone else who is intrigued by our goal. We are at a crossroads where the limitations of our budget and technology are becoming our greatest stumbling block.
For our show to continue to increase in quality and scope we need to upgrade past our current equipment set up. Our goal is to acquire the following:
1. A mixing board and individual headset mics for our hosts, engineer and guests, as we believe our audience deserves the best possible sound quality.
2. A digital voice recorder, thereby allowing us to record interviews in locations outside of Matt's dining room/Engineer Corwin's bedroom.
2a. If the internet is supremely generous, and we are overfunded to the degree it becomes possible, a video camera will also be purchased to allow us to produce video content for our listeners as well.
Brass tacks, we appreciate everyone who listens to our show and we want to give them the best experience possible. We've been doing the best we can with what we have had so far. With a little help, we think we can do even better.
By creating a more professional studio environment, each episode will have the professional audio quality we want and you deserve. These advancements will also allow us the freedom to make our show portable, meaning you can get on the spot interviews and events captured on the show as never before.
We have a grand vision of Apropos of Nothing becoming the flagship podcast of a network of shows, covering a variety of topics, which we can only do once we have the equipment to make it possible. It won't take much to make a huge difference, and we wish to thank everyone for their support.
