Earthships use discarded materials like used tires and plastic bottles, solar/wind electricity, rainwater catchment and filtration, passive solar/thermal mass design, and contained natural sewage treatment to achieve a home that is entirely independent and free from monthly bills.
I believe this project can help demonstrate viable solutions and I want to continue to make the space available to the public for educational and inspirational purposes.
The times are calling for swift action in the way that we deal with rapidly advancing challenges on this planet.
We are asking for your help to ensure that we have the resources to complete construction during this upcoming building season.
If we exceed our goal, the extra funds will be used for the improvement of the property as a star observatory and space for sustainable community development and research.
Risks and challenges
We need money for materials and landscaping work to make the property accessible and accommodating for guests, and to get all the systems up and running to full capacity.
One of the biggest challenges has been working at a slow pace with a small crew at the mercy of Tennessee's weather. With secured budget, we can make faster strides with the right team and equipment so we can ensure the building get's finished before next winter sets in.
We've done a lot with very little so far!
We need to raise $15,000 dollars to cover all of the expenses of this campaign, get all the materials, and compensate our labor for their time and making sure they are well nourished.
Here's the breakdown:
10% (~$1,500) to the amazing production team that helped in actualizing this campaign. (It absolutely would not have happened without them)
$2,500 for the driveway: materials and machine work to improve site access
$2,500 for the concrete roof and rainwater catchment system
$1,500 for the greenhouse finishes and installation of greywater botanical cells
$2,000 for interior finishes for adobe plaster and polished concrete floor
$1,000 for cabinetry, counter tops, trim, and other built-in amenities
$1,500 for Water Organizing Module, water heater, greywater pumps, and other plumbing for the water system.
$1,000 for labor of septic system.
$1,500 for fulfillment of rewards and accommodations for guests.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
