"Hey Astro!" is a follow up to “Mars or Bust.” It contains all brand new poems about my family’s annual trip from North Carolina to Florida. We do have some adventures! On this past trip we revisited Legoland, Cocoa Beach, Savannah and traipsed through the wilds of South Carolina on the way including a non-stop at South of the Border. Have you ever been to South of the Border? Then, there's a poem in this book just for you!
At the time I wrote "Hey Astro!" I was also promoting "Mars or Bust" on the road. My son, who is my collaborator on most of my projects, filmed me doing readings on location and then I posted them to my Facebook poetry page, @lbsedlacekpoet. Every time we travel, I usually end up writing something about it, but not always poetry.
Excerpt from "Hey Astro!" - from the poem "Surf Zombies": "...surfing zombies / with brains intact / with speech intact / but they can't use either one / no / bro / it's / against the zombie surfer code....."
Excerpt from "Hey Astro!" - from the poem "Lake Eloise": "...butterflies and fishermen / standing in idling boats / talking about the odds / the lack of results / no catch no fish / a lake as vast ...."
Some of the poems in "Hey Astro!": "It's Bo Time," "Welcome to Florida," "Night Swim," "The Dinosaur Store, Part 2," "Putt Putt and Gators," "Where Orange Juice Comes From," "Florida Toll Roads," "Georgia Pecans," "River Street - Savannah," "I've Never Been to South of the Border" and more!
I plan to offer free copies of "The Poet's Survival Guide: How to Make Money and Publish your Poetry," free copies of "Hey Astro!" in ebook or chapbook form, an acknowledgment of support with names of supporters listed in the chapbook and ebook, and more t-shirts! This time the tees, will be designed with the "Hey Astro!" artwork pieces. With funds from my project, I plan to publish and market “Hey Astro!” as a chapbook and ebook and to sell it online and at readings.
Your support of "Hey Astro!" will help me to continue to not only promote my own poetry, but to also keep promoting poetry in my local community, the online poetry community with my newsletter "The Poetry Market Ezine" and anywhere I can get anyone to listen to me about poetry!
Thanks for your support!
Risks and challenges
It isn't easy to find other poetry readers. A lot of times, poetry readers are actually poets themselves. They love the written word!
I try to find inexpensive ways to market my books, keeping the costs down and making poetry affordable for all.
To market, I post excerpts from my posts on Instagram, Facebook, Tumblr, and Twitter. I have a local poetry Facebook page in my community and I also have a few blogs where I promote my work. I sell my poetry books online and at readings and even from the trunk of my car. I carry them with me where ever I go, stop and read a little and sell a chapbook here or there.
I publish a free resource for poets, The Poetry Market Ezine, and I also published other poets' chapbooks at one time, too. Now, I mainly stick to publishing the Ezine and publishing my own works. I can do desktop publishing, ebooks, and use online services to complete publishing projects. My goal is to make poetry fun, accessible and affordable - to create and grow the love I have of poetry and to share it with everyone!Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
