"Captains! The Galactic Construction Company (GCC) welcomes you to compete for our coveted Galactic Contract! Each of you has been outfitted with a ship from our fleet and is now expected to fulfill shipments to the GCC. Upgrade your ship and trade with planets to gain advantages; complete shipments to allow us to construct improvements. Now get to your ships!" - Galactic Contract Rulebook redhaiku.com/galacticcontract/rules/
Galactic Contract is about resource management. Your goal is to collect as many points as possible by collecting resources and allocating them strategically around the solar system.
You and 2-3 friends play as contractors each trying to prove that you deserve the lucrative Galactic Contract from the GCC. Gain points by purchasing upgrades, trading with planets, and fulfilling shipments for the GCC. Full rules are here.
We (Hank & Jake) have come to understand the games we love perform well in three key elements: Strategy, Chance, and Design. We've worked hard to deliver those three elements in their best forms in Galactic Contract.
We designed and tested the mechanics of the game through many iterations (and with many people) to ensure it requires strategic thinking, but is balanced with just enough random chance that you always have an opportunity to comeback. Play testing was arduous, but paid off with a well-balanced game with numerous types of winning strategies.
In addition to fun gameplay, the art and design of the game is gorgeous! To quote one of the employees at our manufacturer: "I can't wait to see this in print, this one of the cleanest, best looking games I have seen in a long time. The design aesthetic is fantastic!" We can't thank our designer (David) enough for taking us from ascii art on index cards to incredible full color design in production.
This is an unusual Kickstarter for two reasons:
1. We already have the product, ready to ship to your home. This isn't a "help us make the thing" fundraise, this is a "tell us where to ship the thing" fundraise! We will not fail to deliver and we will deliver quickly.
2. So why do we need fundraising? To produce our game so quickly, we took loans from our older brothers, Rich and Blake. This Kickstarter is primarily to help us pay them back for their belief in the game and support of us.
Our goal is to raise $2000 from this Kickstarter, or about enough to pay one of our brothers back. Your reward selection decides which brother we pay back early (we'll still pay the other, just not for a year or so). They like the idea of getting an early return on their loan, we like the idea of getting out of debt, and you like the idea of getting a fun game and pushing sibling rivalry to its limit! Vote with your money and get a sweet game in return!
WHO ARE WE?
Hank & Jake are brothers who started RedHaiku.com to make tabletop games. Galactic Contract is our first and we're quite proud of it. We have several ideas for both expansions and new games and think Galactic Contract will be a strong foundation for RedHaiku as a whole.
We're absolutely game addicts since childhood. Being the younger two of four brothers, we grew up pushing through losses imposed by our older brothers & dad in any tabletop, athletic, and video game you could name. After growing up like this, we both find that socializing is best done over a game and play games almost every day. Our biggest difference in game preferences is that Hank tends to pick a game and play for depth of experience, whereas Jake likes to play as many new games as he can for a breadth of experience; we still play together online and whenever we're together.
David is our genius designer who met Jake while they both worked together. His day job is designing software, but his creative approach really made our game come to life and we can't thank him enough for his contributions (most especially his patience through our moves, weddings, childbirths, job changes, and general production delays).

Risks and challenges
We already have the finished product, so the biggest risk is that you won't be home when your box arrives and be forced to wait another day!
We have the boxes and will start shipping the day we hit our goal. Thanks for your support - cheers!Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
