I have been playing the harp for 14 years, but after hearing Joanna Newsom in high school I finally started thinking about what else the harp could be other than an ornament lost in the orchestra pit. I said "no thanks" to my orchestral scholarship to UC Irvine after high school, and went in search of my heart. I vowed to make the harp "cool," whatever that meant.
After a few years spent jamming up the San Diego music scene with my nerdy, internet-sensation band The Wrong Trousers (see this nerd-tastic Buggles cover: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VSUX9byu6NY), I moved onto my solo career. Thanks to Aural Gravy Records, a small operation here in San Diego, I was able to record and release my first solo record, Personal Myth.
I've still got to sell about 300 albums to break even, and the best way to do that is to take one's music on the road! This is why we would like to tour. In order for me to be able to make another record with this label, I need to first make the label's money back. So by donating to this Kickstarter, you are essentially helping me make my next album, which would mean the entire world to me.
It is my greatest desire in life to spread love and good vibes with music. My highest hope would be that the rock n' roll style in which I play harp will someday inspire another musician to think of their instrument in a different context. It can be so freeing to break the rules.
I now play with a new band, but old friends, Jose (drums) and Mike (bass). We are dying to get outta town and play music for everyone we meet! Please help kick start our journey to rockdom and beyond!
If we reach our goal and you find you still believe in us, keep on donating! We've got a lot of bases to cover in general, live equipment, a weighted keyboard, replacement harp strings, etc. Every extra dollar will be used efficiently and responsibly and in the name of ROCK!
