We can't say enough about how much we love board games! In fact, we think board games have the ability to make everyone better people - better at communicating, better at critical thinking, better at compassion, and they help people with their memory, their education, and even their social skills. The benefits are numerous. And if they make everyone better people, it stands to reason that it makes the world a better place. So we want to get people together in an inviting social environment, sitting down with games, and letting them have at it. It's one of the richest experiences you can get, and we are all about that! So when we say our motto is "Unplug. Sit down. Reconnect" we mean it!
So how do we plan on creating this environment? Simply put, we are a board game café & pub – which is just what it sounds like. We are a café that serves locally-sourced panini, crepes, salads, ice cream and other yummy bites. We are a pub which serves beer and spirits from Colorado's best breweries and liquor producers. We will also have local soda and milkshakes. And, most importantly, we will have board games. And not just a few board games, a lot! Starting with at least 600 board games - everything from chess and Monopoly to Catch Phrase and Cards Against Humanity to Settlers of Catan and Power Grid. No matter what your gaming tastes and gaming experience, we want to get you to the table. A basic $5 table fee gets you a spot at our tables where you can access our entire library along with roaming Play Pros who will help you select and get started playing some excellent games.
We've got all the basics locked down. We've got our kitchen and bar plans finished. We have over 600 games collected. And basic floor plan is drawn out. But we still have a few cool ideas that are beyond our current budget, and we're hoping you want to help us make our play space as cool as we imagine. The kickstarter goal we've set will get us a couple of interactive play areas.
The interactive play areas will be in the front of the house. Great for anyone to play but especially for those who might need to hang out waiting for an open table. We already have a 3' tall jenga-style game that will be waiting for you in the front but we'd also like to have a puzzle wall. It could be a giant-sized crossword puzzle or giant sudoku that you can use magnetic letter and numbers on.
And maybe a lego wall...
We've also thought about a LiteBrite wall, but we'll have to see what finished wall space there is and what time and money allows us to fit in.
The goal should also allow us to upgrade some surroundings. We are aiming to include some booth or bench seating. And hoping to spruce up our community tables that you'll see as you walk in. We even have some cool s-t-r-e-t-c-h goals in mind, if we are that lucky!
We will be centrally located at 900 W 1st Ave, intersection of 1st and Santa Fe in Denver. That puts us inside The Yard which is a lumberyard redevelopment project.
This cool project creates a variety of multi-use buildings situated around a central area with ample parking all in the boundaries of what used to be the Stark Lumber yard. Renegade Brewing, Rocky Mountain Flex Fitness, and Fin Art Fine Furniture is already there. We have space for some retail, some dining and some offices when the project is completed.
This location also puts us at the south end of the Santa Fe Art District, as well as few short block from SoBo, and in between two campuses and two light rail stations. So you are probably hanging out not too far from us already. Now you'll have another fun option when you're looking to get out.
We are Keith Meyers and Adam Alleman. We've been avid gamers for years and years.
Keith is actually a game industry veteran of 28 years. He's worked for such recognizable names as The Game Keeper, Wizards of the Coast, Hasbro and IELLO. His industry work has spanned retail, publishing, and game design. He believes we are in the 2nd Golden Age of gaming and a board game cafe is the perfect way to introduce everyone to what this new world of gaming has to offer.
Adam is a European-trained chef who has worked in restaurants and catering in Vail and Denver. He loves eating, drinking, gaming and dreaming of creating a perfect meal and drink menu to enhance the gaming experience for all tastes. For him, a board game café and pub is just about the best thing imaginable.
We are anxious to see what we can create with all of your help. Your generous pledges are much appreciated!
We want to reach out to the community. Are staff will be encouraged to bring gaming out into the community such as with the Boys & Girls Club, senior centers, halfway houses, rehab facilities - wherever it is needed. To accomplish this we will need about 2 dozen games specifically set aside for this purpose. We will also need some mobile signage and some marketing materials to get this off the ground.
Thank you all for your support!
