Burnt Out Punks - the series
We have been working on this documentary series on and off for about two years. Our un-edited material has grown into many many many of hours of film. And our understanding and love for these crazy people has grown deeper in the process. Burnt Out Punks is a freak- comedy -fire -circus that has been touring around Europe for the last 10 years, living life in an unconventional way. The daily struggle to balance artistic integrity and economical survival has truly inspired us.
We are hoping to inspire the audience of the series in a similar way with the underlying attitude of – Living your dream no matter what!
We wish to share the story about this unconventional family with everybody. We want you to get to know them and their weird humour, their craziness, through hardship and through success but above all - their friendship, dreams and love for life.
Even though the Punks family has grown lately we mainly focus on the following characters:
NALLE is a director and clown. He has a soft spot for burlesque, lives in a bus since 7 years and is the creator of Clowns without Borders in Sweden. In the show he acts as the “ringmaster” taking up a lot of space both literally and figuratively.
MITHRAS is a recovering drug addict who struggles with his life as a father. The pick-up and drop off at daycare constantly reminds him about life as an “average Joe”-strongly contrasting with the rock star attitude that he projects. He’s the womaniser in the group.
BJÖRN, ”The genius” found love during his time in hospital, after injuries due to an explosion on stage. He can manage without money for a long time and he loves to learn new things. On the verge of being a smart-ass - according to the others in the group.
RONNIE has built a 15-year career on humping reindeer antlers. He’s a pet lover and has masochistic tendencies. He’s constantly delayed and is the group's party animal.
WILLE is the boss who doesn’t want to lead but neither trusts anyone else to do it. He loves to build things - and to blow things up. He’s starting new projects all the time and is also the only one who is stubborn enough to make it happen. Most often with a smile.
The goal is to edit the material into a series of 6 episodes of 15 minutes. In our current situation we can’t continue this project without economic support . So far we have ventured our spare time and money in our conviction that there will be a payback in the end. And if it there isn't, well, at least we had an interesting journey.
BUT If we do not manage to get the funding for additional filming and editing YOU run the risk of never getting to know this dysfunctional family through our eyes. And to never encounter the important questions that we think their choices may be posing to you. If we get the money, the postproduction will start in the end of April 2015 and the first episodes will be launched on YouTube in the end of May 2015.
Risks and challenges
Since we’ve followed Burnt Out Punks for such a long time, we almost have all of the materials needed for a complete series.
The biggest obstacle (if we have to say something), even if it’s minimal, would be that the group decides to quit performing and give up their dreams. But that would be very very surprising.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
