It's called BRASS TAPS, a brassy musical journey inspired by Water.
We are SUPERBRASS a collective of some of the finest and most experienced professional brass and percussion players working on the demanding and vibrant London music scene.
Members of SUPERBRASS are drawn from the ranks of the London Symphony Orchestra, the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra, the John Wilson Orchestra and the BBC Big Band and many more top orchestras and ensembles.
Additionally members of SUPERBRASS are highly regarded educators and professors of music at the top London Music Colleges.
We number 4 Trumpets, 1 French Horn, 4 Trombones, 1 Tuba, 1 Drummer and 1 Percussionist. Sometimes we use 2 Percussionists or even more !
We play a deliberate and eclectic mix of styles. On this BRASS TAPS project you will hear a blend of folk, classical, contemporary and jazz music.
We plan to record approx 60 minutes of music. There will be 11 separate titles, 9 of which are new commissions and 2 of which are traditional folk tunes freshly arranged for the project.
We'd like to introduce you to these pieces of music and the marvellous people who composed and arranged them especially for us.
Firewater by Jim Rattigan
Icebreaker by Tom Harrold
Wade in Water (traditional), arranged by Mark Bassey
The Healing Stream by David Powell
Flood Warning by Mark Nightingale
Highforce by Mark Lockheart
The Raft of Medusa by Gareth Wood
Deep River (traditional), arranged by Mark Bassey
Inchcolm by Terry Johns
Enormous Pink Jellyfish by Mark Bassey
Underground Plumbing Blues by Andy Baker
"As an icebreaker we wade in the water of the healing stream, before rashly ignoring a flood warning of high force; this leaves us clinging to the raft of the Medusa down a deep river, before being shipwrecked on the island of Inchcolm. Although we manage to find firewater to cheer ourselves up, eating a similarly stranded enormous pink jellyfish proves bad for the digestion and we end up singing the Underground Plumbing Blues :))))"
We recorded our debut CD "Under the Spell of Spain" in March 2011.
Look at some of the video clips, taken at the recording sessions on SUPERBRASS TV. http://goo.gl/UFT34
We also had some STUNNING reviews for this Spanish influenced 2011 project. Check out the reviews via our website. http://www.superbrass.co.uk/reviews-testimonials/reviews/
One of our favourites reviews came from Lydia Van Dreel, Professor at the University of Oregon writing in The Horn Call, journal of the International Horn Society. "...track after track on this CD contain enigmatic pulse-pumping musical essences that will make you want to jump for joy, weep your heart out, or dance until dawn. The opening track is based on Canticles of the Blessed Virgin composed at the court of King Alfonso X of Castile in the second half of the 13th century. The music is riveting from the opening crash of the percussion through the last fiery pulses of Cuban composer Ernesto Lecuona's Malaguena. Throughout the CD, styles as diverse as medieval polyphony, modern big band, salsa, and tango merge and weave their way, track by track, as if taking the listener on a guided tour through the country, history, and worldwide cultural influence of the Iberian peninsula."
At this stage in the evolution of SUPERBRASS we are currently only recording music that has been especially arranged or written for us. We've negotiated preferable royalty deals with all our composers. From the sale of this sheet music, the composers then see a larger percentage royalty returning directly to them, rather than have to go through large music publishing houses.
After all, without their wonderful music we wouldn't have a CD to record !
It's also about sustainability. If you support this BRASS TAPS project you'll be supporting the creation of FANTASTIC ORIGINAL NEW REPERTOIRE composed and arranged by professional composers.
SUPERBRASS MUSIC is already being used and performed by many schools, music centres, music colleges, universities, amateur enthusiasts, military musicians, brass bands and professional brass ensembles in various corners of the world.
The feedback from the people who have bought our sheet music has been nothing short of sensational. The proceeds from these sheet music sales have allowed us to immediately re-invest in commissioning new repertoire for this BRASS TAPS project.
If we exceed our £5,000 goal we will start commissioning further new repertoire for a 2014/2015 combined recording/publishing project. We've got a few interesting ideas for themes and influences for Project Number 3 but more than welcome your suggestions. Drop us an email with your thoughts on this and ideas for repertoire you might like to see us play and/or record in the future.
SUPERBRASS MUSIC is scored for 4 Trumpets, 1 French Horn, 4 Trombones, 1 Tuba and (usually) 1 Drummer and 1 or 2 Percussionists. We automatically include alternative parts for Soprano Cornet, Tenor Horn, Euphoniums, Baritones, Bb Trombones, Eb Basses and Bb Basses.
The music is printed on high quality A3 and A4 paper, which is Light ivory in colour.
In keeping with our existing sheet music titles, these NEW BRASS TAPS titles will retail for between £25-£35. The total cost of purchasing the whole new set of parts and score for BRASS TAPS would be a hefty £335 and that's before postage and packing, which to the USA alone would be in the region of a further £50.
Take a quick look at the final £300 pledge, this offers the BEST value as it contains all 11 pieces of new music, the polo shirt, the baseball cap, plus the ALL IMPORTANT BRASS TAPS CD....bundled together with FREE postage ANYWHERE in the world !
All SUPERBRASS MUSIC is available through our website (see below) and these new BRASS TAPS titles will be added and ready by mid September 2013. http://goo.gl/XFFkT
For as little as £10 you can support our commitment to continually bringing you new exciting brass and percussion repertoire.
For as little as £10, that's a BRAND NEW CD, posted to you direct from the ARTISTS themselves, with FREE postage within the UK. (Add £3 postage for a NON-UK address).
Hopefully as an incentive and making EXCELLENT early Christmas presents, we've bundled together a few bits and pieces of merchandise alongside copies of the new sheet music and the all important BRASS TAPS CD.
"A Right Pair of Mugs" - modelled by SUPERBRASS trombonists Andy Wood & Matt Gee,...look how chic you would look wearing these magnificent trendy threads :)))
The cost of putting on a project like this doesn't come cheap. The amount we're looking for is the final instalment that will allow us to finish this project off. This will allow us to record, to edit, to mix and to master the CD. It will also allow us to finish editing the scores and parts. It will also allow us to video our sessions and engage a professional photographer to capture all those magical musical moments both behind and in front of the scenes.
All the AMAZING people involved in this project earn their living by being creatives artists. That means the musicians, the producer, the engineer, the photographer, the CD designer and the film team all need to get paid. Then there's the cost of renting the recording equipment, the hire of the recording studio, the hire of the percussion instruments and the transportation of the percussion instruments. There are music licensing fees, composers fees, arrangers fees, music editing costs and the final cost of manufacturing the CDs themselves.
If we exceed our goal, we'll commit any extra money toward the cost of commissioning even more new material for another project we have up our sleeves for 2014/2015.
KICKSTARTER allows creative artists who are PASSIONATE & COMMITTED to their music making to bypass the big record labels and distributers and to get their music straight out to like-minded people who share the passion and are prepared to support innovation.
Remember we're not asking for a donation, you'll be getting the finished CD in return for the lowest pledge and you'll be getting it both before it becomes available in the shops or on I-Tunes AND at a cheaper price.
KICKSTARTER is all or nothing, if we don't reach our goal we don't receive any pledges.
PLEDGE NOW and persuade your friends, family and work colleagues to pledge also, you wouldn't regret it !
PLEASE share this film with all your brass and percussion playing friends and let us know what you think of what we're trying to do via our social media sites.

Risks and challenges
Our biggest challenge has already been met, that of scheduling.
It's already taken nearly 5 months to find free time in all our diaries, but we've finally been able to get all the musicians, the producer, the engineer and the recording venue available ALL at the same time.
We do not foresee any further challenges in completing this project successfully by mid September 2013.
