About the Album and Music
After completing my debut solo album Violet Convergence: Viola Works on Clarinet in February 2013, I'm already back in the studios to begin work on another recording project. This album will consist of clarinet works by Nikola Resanovic, an American composer of Serbian heritage who currently lives and works in Ohio. His combination of traditional Serbian music with modern American compositional styles imports music of distinct and unique character to the modern clarinet repertoire.
A few of the works on this album are well-known, one of the works has yet to be played, and all but one of the pieces has never been recorded and released on an album prior to this project. This will be the first album for most of these works and the only album of exclusively clarinet works by Resanovic.
Because of the successful release of my first album, I have the experience and expertise to ensure the high quality and successful release of this album. I have already completed the recording and editing of Resanovic's Sonata for clarinet and piano, one of the five works that will be on this album. The works have a variety of instrumentation including music for clarinet and CD, clarinet and piano, clarinet duet, clarinet trio, and clarinet and bass clarinet duo. While these works all have their own unique sound, they also have the distinct sound that Resanovic gives to his works, his Serbian roots often shining through. To hear an example of Resanovic's music, play the video to hear parts of the Sonata.
I plan to complete and release this album by August 2014. I believe this release date will give me enough time to collaborate with the various artists this project requires as well as time to complete the editing, mastering, album cover art, printing, and production. As well, I plan to record the whole album with expert recording engineer Clarke Rigsby at Tempest Recording. His expertise will help to ensure the excellence of this project.
Why the $3000 budget?
Most recordings of this type require a budget of around $5000. This includes recording and editing time, collaborative artists, mastering, cover/booklet/CD art designs, printing of art, and production/duplication of CDs. I have already committed some of my own money toward this project, and, depending on how much I am funded, may have to contribute more. Since this is an "all-or-nothing" funding project, I decided to start low with the hope that I will raise more. Any amount of money that is raised above the budget will go towards the rest of the project.
Each work on this album has different instrumentation and requires various artists to record with me. The other artists recording with me are:
Katie Palmer, clarinet
Melissa Vaughan, clarinet
Matt Miracle, bass clarinet
Qing Nadia Feeken, piano
I am a recording and performance artist and teacher in the Phoenix area. During my career I have had the privilege to perform in concert and recital halls throughout the United States and have had many opportunities to solo with various ensembles. In addition, I have successfully recorded and released my first solo album in February 2013. Because of its success and my interest in the new music of Nikola Resanovic, I have decided to embark on this recording project. Risks and challenges
The only risks in this project will relate to timing and funding. There are many steps in the recording and release process for this album. I am confident in my abilities to complete the project based on my prior experience with recording and releasing a CD. I believe the required time to address all of the parts of releasing the album can be accomplished in the timeline I have given. The biggest risk I face is having sufficient funds to complete the project. As long as this project is funded, the completion of this project is guaranteed.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
