Meet the Creators
Pete is an award-winning British writer, who came to comics via a series of screenwriting courses at Raindance in London. In 2007 he co-founded Orang Utan Comics, publishing anthology title Eleventh Hour, featuring his own short stories, alongside the work of other rising talent. Within a year the book had been nominated for an Eagle award. In 2011 his first graphic novel The Interactives was released, to critical acclaim, with art by Luciano Vecchio (Beware the Batman). Earlier this year the first title from his new imprint Dapper Chimp Press was released, ‘Chris Smith and the Nazi Zombies from Hell’ which he served as editor on.
"With his ferocious instinct for shifting perspectives, and a sniper’s eye for finding that which is relevant amidst that which is fantastical, Rogers’s recent work confirms his place as a leading light in the next wave of British comics talent. I’ll be looking forward to Forgotten Planet with huge anticipation." - SI SPURRIER
"A fun science fiction premise, a killer mystery and a hugely talented creative team behind it all. The Forgotten Planet looks like a winner. And In Pete Rogers it has a writer who, one feels, could well be a name to watch in the coming years." - ROB WILLIAMS
Giancarlo has worked for most of the major European and American comics publishers, since his first work was published in 1982 in his native Italy. His bold, energetic artwork has been seen in the likes of Jonah Hex, Gorilla Man, Iron Man, Spider-Man and Random Acts of Violence. His work gives this project a unique style and voice, and we are very proud to have such a respected professional on board.
"Giancarlo is one of those classic talents largely lost to this modern world, building new worlds fully realized with weight and depth as if they'd always existed." - IVAN BRANDON
“Giancarlo is a master storyteller and one of the freshest talents coming out of Europe at the moment. There is a reason I have worked with him over and over.” - JIMMY PALMIOTTI
"Having worked with Giancarlo on multiple projects including a successful kickstarter, I not only admire the quality of his illustrations, storytelling and professionalism, but also his dedication to seeing a a project through to the end. Plus he's a great guy." - JUSTIN GRAY
"Giancarlo was a pleasure to work with on Marvel's Gorilla Man. In that series he was tasked with delivering monkeys holding big guns, beautiful femme fatales, insane tech, multiple time eras, and elaborate action set pieces. He delivered with uncompromising dedication and flair . Giancarlo's a dynamic storyteller who puts characterization and atmosphere before anything else. His urgent line work is stylish and satisfying. He really can draw just about anything, and he makes it look easy too." - MICHAEL HORWITZ
This is a full colour 100 page Graphic Novel edited by Shane Chebsey, who is running this campaign and many of the the special rewards attached to this edition will be exclusively available to Kickstarter Supporters only.
A little about our story
On Pluto Cale Beckett is infamous.
He’s the poster boy used to instil fear into the Plutonian race.
But Cale Beckett is living in denial.
Beckett spends a solitary existence on a Tanzanian game reserve, with just his dog for company. He can remember the things he did on Pluto in the 70s and he’s been trying to forget about it ever since. When Pluto is downgraded to a planetoid, its new classification 134340 appears all over the media.
This reignites the wiped memories of all the mercenaries who used to police the planet, and they are killed before they can talk. But Cale is different, he never forgot what happened, and killing him won’t be so easy. When mercenaries are sent to kill him, on the same day that Pluto’s planet status is revoked, he knows something is wrong. And he knows his two oldest friends are dead. The only way to unearth the truth, means a trip back into his past and a return to Pluto, the Forgotten Planet.
"Forgotten Planet is definitely a labour of love for me, it’s a story I’ve been working on for some time and something I’ve completely thrown myself into. When the original artist, and my regular collaborator, Azim Akberali had health problems and wasn't able to continue with the book I shelved it for years. He was so keen for me to still push forward with the project that I eventually relented. Having the opportunity to see the world Cale Beckett inhabits come to life, courtesy of another world class artist like Giancarlo, is a dream come true.” PETE ROGERS
How will my money be spent?
We are offering you some fantastic exclusive rewards to raise £11,500 that will help to make this book happen.
£7000 will be paid to Giancarlo as an advance to allow him to work on the book. This works out at a tiny page rate and well below industry standards. Despite this Giancarlo is giving this project the dedication of a true professional and for that we salute him!
The rest of the funds will go towards the production of the book and delivery of your rewards.
Other publishing costs are being covered by British Indy Publishers Scar Comics.
If we manage to go over our target we're planning to add some extra bonus features for our supporters, including a star-studded launch party. We'll unveil more about as the campaign progresses.
