ABOUT THE FILM
Green Blah! The History of Green Bay Punk Rock is a documentary-in-progress that tells the story of the punk rock and independent music scene of Green Bay, WI and its neighboring communities of Appleton, Oshkosh, Manitowoc, Sturgeon Bay and elsewhere in NE Wisconsin. Green Bay is easily identified as being the home town of the smallest National Football League franchise, the Green Bay Packers. It is also home to meat packing plants, paper mills, vegetable factories and cheese curds. Behind the scenes, Green Bay fostered a punk rock scene that spawned from meager beginnings and had a hard core roster of local punk bands, featuring some with ties to football team itself!! Green Bay also developed into a prime destination point on the map for major touring punk bands: Black Flag, the Dead Kennedys, Husker Du, the Decendents, ALL, the Dickies, Toxic Reasons, Agent Orange, Social Distortion, 7 Seconds, Soul Asylum...plus countless other bands.
If you ask the "man-on-the-street " what punk rock is, the obvious answers are plain to see: The Ramones in NYC, the Sex Pistols in London or Black Flag in LA. But what happens when Punk Rock invades a small, Midwestern city with its former glory years fading in the twilight of the rust belt???
We trace the history of punk rock in Green Bay back to its very origins in the mid 1970's, digging deep to uncover the early pioneers that introduced punk music to our sleepy Midwestern city. Then we carry this forward until the late 1980's and we cover every significant band, venue and event in the punk scene that occurred along the way!!!
See the cast of characters that shaped and created an independent and vital punk scene from the ground up. See the story of how an energetic and self-supporting DIY punk scene took hold in a small, Midwestern city known as the National Football League’s “Titletown USA" and still thrives today!!!
WHY WE NEED YOUR HELP
Having collected nearly all the necessary pieces, we now need your help to put them all together and complete this film. Your contribution will help us cover the many upcoming expenses, including:
- color correction
- sound editing
- DVD production
- film fest entry fees and more
We have a formidable task in front of us—but we want to get the Green Bay punk rock history finished so we can share it with the rest of you.
To document our subject, we have conducted over 80+ interviews with a run time of over 50 hours with the key figures of the era, collected music from 25 different bands from the scene, compiled over 750 photos, 300 flyers and posters and over 75 different fanzines. We also uncovered some rare archival footage that has never been seen before!!
Your support to fund this project will also help to create an archive that will be accessible to the fans of the Green Bay punk scene from anywhere in the world. We will ensure that the vital material obtained for the film is preserved for the ages in an easily accessible online vault.

HOW KICKSTARTER WORKS
Kickstarter is a fantastic fund raising tool for creative projects like ours. The catch is, it’s all or nothing—if we do not reach our goal we lose everything. We gave ourselves 30 days to reach our project’s goal. Please help us by making a donation. We have something for everyone regardless of how much you can contribute! And…please help us spread the word, the larger the audience, the better chance we can meet our goal!!
We were determined to put together rewards that not only encouraged donations but also are high quality items that fans of the film will actually want. That being said, here's a bit more information on a few of those rewards:
The DVD is a deluxe, six panel digi-pak chock full of liner notes and photos of the Green Bay punk scene, bonus content not included in the film, and live footage shot at our 2008 25th Anniversary Northside Bowling Lanes reunion show...a definite collector's item!!!
The 11x17 posters will be silk screened with two colors on 100 pound French paper stock that will be excellent for framing.
The stocking cap is a "made in the USA" high quality knit hat with Green Blah! knitted in and a green and gold colored pom on top. It's PERFECT to wear for those ice-cold games at Lambeau Field!!!
The embroidered Dickies brand jacket will be a quilt-lined, Eisenhower jacket with embroidery on the front chest and across the back of the jacket.
Plus, every reward package that gets delivered will include some fun little extras like stickers, punk rock buttons for your leather jacket and other goodies!!
CAN WE EXCEED OUR GOAL?
Absolutely!! We have no doubt that this goal can be accomplished. Every cent that is contributed will go toward making the best Green Blah! film possible. Any amount that exceeds the goal will undoubtedly cover unexpected costs we are faced with along the way. Thanks so much for your support!!!
Risks and challenges
Our biggest challenge will be timing the completion of the film. We have worked hard to acquire the interviews and materials needed, put together a great team of editors and set specific deadline dates to keep us on track. Still, there will more than likely be unexpected delays in post-production (color, sound and animation) that will be beyond our control.
If at any time we perceive a significant delay that would interfere with the delivery of rewards, we will update our contributors and be completely honest in doing so.
We can see the finish line!!! We owe a huge debt of gratitude to our friends, family, fans and particiants in this venture already and we’re not going to let anyone down, including ourselves.
Thanks for your support!!!
