SMALL PLATES - a new short from Tinker Films

HELLO KICKSTARTER!

First, thank you for taking the time to check out our little project. SMALL PLATES is the combined efforts of so many people, and we are ecstatic to have you be a part of that.

WHAT IS SMALL PLATES?

A new film from writer & director Thom Anthony. If you've ever worked in the service industry as a bartender, waiter, or bus-boy then this film is for you. Drawn from years of working in the industry, the script is based on actual conversations and occurrences.

From the Writer:

"Taking place over the course of a single evening and told through micro plots, disjointed perspectives, and re-tellings, the film is a study of the universal and unique. It is the absurd, confounding, and astounding experiences that happen in the most public of spaces.

The features of contemporary life pull us in a multitude of directions. Some people are anchors, others maelstroms. SMALL PLATES attempts to unify these forces into a portrait of (sub)urban life."

We are shooting in Madison, WI using local actors, crew members, and businesses.

WHY WE NEED YOUR HELP:

Tinker Films is used to working on a small budget. Generally with budgets under $1,000 we've been able to produce some exciting products.

But for SMALL PLATES we want to bring on some new talent, additional production value, and rent out more challenging locations. So we need some help. Your contributions will help move us into principal photography.

Risks and challenges

Once this campaign is successful, we will begin the arduous task of securing locations and bringing together the equipment needed to shoot the film. This process will present us with a number of complex and unique challenges which fall in to three categories: Personnel, Locations, and Logistics.

Personnel: We are looking to bring on new people in roles we have previously filled ourselves. Hair and make-up, set decoration, script supervision, BTS photography, and more. Bringing in people means more vehicles, food, organization, etc. This will be a huge challenge and pose some very real risks. Production management will be headed up by Bri Mueller, an experienced stage manager and film producer. We are very excited to work with her.

Locations: Due to the nature of the script, we will have to work very closely with our locations. A restaurant is a challenging place to shoot a film due to their hours, staffing, and more. Our team has many hours of experience in the service industry and will leverage that to ease this risk.

Logistics: Getting a cast, crew, and gear to a location is hard enough. Doing this for 4 weeks in a Wisconsin winter is going to be a very unique challenge. Thankfully this isn't the first time we've worked under those conditions. We produced a music video and a short film last winter.
