Why a one-week campaign? Read the answer to this question and others in the F.A.Q section below.
Slush Fund 2 is a quick, 2-player area control game from the "King of the Filler." It is a heavily revised and streamlined version of one of Dr. Finn's earliest efforts, Slush Fund. In both games, players are extremely wealthy individuals who use their money to influence the political world.
Slush Fund 2 improves upon the original by reducing the role of luck and memory, by updating the artwork, and by changing key rules and powers to make the game more strategic. Read about the differences between the two games here. Read the rules here. Watch the videos below for an in-depth look at the game.
Slush Fund 2 is a card game with 65 playing cards, 6 rules card, and 1 reference card.
*6 rule cards and 1 reference card not shown.
All backers at the $15 level or above receive a special Secret Powers Promo Pack that adds variety to the game. This is a special item that is only available to backers and members of Dr. Finn's Kickstarter Club (which is only possible for backers of this project or a future Dr. Finn's project). The promo pack will not be available in the retail version nor will it be distributed to retail stores.
What do the promotional cards do? Each card provides a special power to be used once during the game. Each player is given one randomly at the start and the card stays secret until use. The three promo cards include:
- FBI - Prevent opponent from using Slush Fund for 1 turn
- Windfall - Draw 3 more cards, return 3 to the top of deck, and then take your turn
- Encryption - Place on a politician to prevent hacking
By backing this project at the $15 level or higher, your reward includes a 3-month membership in Dr. Finn's Games' Kickstarter Club. Benefits of club membership include special sale prices on other Dr. Finn's Games, inclusion on Dr. Finn's "Hall of Fame", and access to special promotional items.
I have had 8 successful Kickstarter campaigns, during which my games were available for discounted prices. With so many games and possible combinations, the campaigns have become too unwieldy, so this is the solution for a simplified and user-friendly campaign.
Here's my "how to play" video:
Watch Rahdo's run-through for a more detailed understanding of the game and for his thoughts about it:
The $35 reward level combines Dr. Finn's Let Them Eat Shrimp with Slush Fund 2.
The $45 reward level combines Dr. Finn's Foragers with Slush Fund 2.
The $55 reward level includes all of Dr. Finn's 2-player only games: The Institute for Magical Arts, Capo die Capi, and Slush Fund 2. You also receive the promotional packs for all 3 games.
Here are reviews of Let Them Eat Shrimp, The Institute for Magical Arts and Capo dei Capi to learn more about these games.
Why a limited number of stretch goals? Please read the answer in the F.A.Q. below.
Shipping to the United States: Shipping costs are incorporated into all rewards for U.S. backers.
Shipping to European Union: All games going to non-U.S. destinations will ship from the U.K. This project is therefore E.U.-friendly, which means you will not be subject to any additional taxes or duties. You will receive a notice from Games Quest when the game ships. No tracking information is provided.
Shipping to all other destinations: All items may be subject to duties and taxes imposed by your country's customs office. You will receive a notice when games ship from Games Quest. No tracking information is provided. The declared value of Slush Fund 2 will be $10 for the purposes of the customs forms and it will be marked as merchandise, not a gift.
Costs: The listed shipping costs for those outside the U.S. are lower than the actual shipping costs because Dr. Finn's Games has reduced your shipping costs by incorporating some of that cost into the prices of the games. The actual shipping cost for all others is approximately $12-18, but backers outside the U.S. pay only an additional $7 for shipping.
Wait for C.O.G.? If you are outside the U.S., you may wish to wait for my next Kickstarter in the fall of this year for C.O.G., when you can get Slush Fund 2 in a combination level with C.O.G. to reduce the shipping costs. However, this means you will not get Slush Fund 2 until mid-2017 and that you must also back for a copy of C.O.G. to receive Slush Fund 2.
Risks and challenges
PRIOR KICKSTARTER PROJECTS
All prior Kickstarter campaigns for Dr. Finn's Games (except the Butterfly Garden, which is close to finished) have been completed. If you have had a problem receiving any of the games from the Foragers campaign, please contact me right away.
Please read carefully before backing this project.
Game manufacturing and publishing contains a number of risks. For this project, the greatest risks follow from the fact that the games will be manufactured in China and shipped to the U.S. The most serious threat in this regard concerns quality control over the manufacturing. A more likely threat, though less serious, is the possible delays involved. Dr. Finn's can mitigate both of these concerns. First, I will be using a manufacturer who has produced good results on game projects in the past. Second, Dr. Finn's Games has successfully completed almost all of his Kickstarter campaigns right on time (one of seven projects was a few weeks late and the eighth looks like it will be early) and understands how to keep the project on track. If any delays do unexpectedly occur, backers will be notified promptly.
If you receive any games that are missing items, please contact Dr. Finn at firstname.lastname@example.org and replacements will be promptly shipped. If the game arrives damaged, you'll receive replacements for whatever is damaged. Please send along a picture, as I may be able to get reimbursed from the shipper. For the past few projects (after switching manufacturers and shipping companies), we've had a very low defect rate (less than 1%).
Refunds are not usually given, unless there is a failure to deliver the games you've requested. However, if you are completely unsatisfied with any game, please contact me and we can discuss it.
Unlike many Kickstarter campaigns, Dr. Finn's Games has a great track record of being right on time. Of course, this might be the one project that gets delayed, but I highly doubt it. This is a small game and exclusively cards—easy peasy.
If you provide an incorrect address or fail to update your address and a game is returned, it would be nice of you to pay for the re-shipment. However, I have paid for it in the past, though I think it really should be your responsibility.
Please read the shipping section above.
Through this campaign you may receive updates on Dr. Finn's Games’ about other future projects. However, such updates will be infrequent.
By backing this project, you acknowledge and accept the risks and challenges just stated.
