This campaign offers 2 Kickstarter exclusive promotional packs for Dr. Finn's Let Them Eat Shrimp, an easy-to-learn, yet strategic, tile placing game in which players help their fish swim, spawn, and survive in shark-filled waters. For those who do not own the base game, this is a final chance to pick up one of the remaining copies before it goes out of print and at a heavily reduced price. For those who do own the game, it's an opportunity to pick up 2 special packs that add variety to it. The campaign also offers the Shark v. Squid expansion, a PDF of "Let Them Eat Shapes", and other games from Dr. Finn's Games (see "add-ons" below).
The Let Them Eat Shrimp: Fish Friends promotional pack adds a splash of variety to the original Let Them Eat Shrimp. The pack has 1 instructional card plus 5 fish friend cards. At the start of a player's turn, he or she uses one of the friends' special powers and then turns the card over. After all 5 friends' powers have been used, the cards are turned face-up again, and players may then use the powers again. The choice of powers, all of which provide the player with a unique ability, adds a new and interesting decision to each turn: should I use the Orca to help me combat the shark, the Jellyfish to place the tile point-to-point, the Dolphin to switch one of my tiles, the Clam to place an additional tile, or the Octopus to place a tile anywhere on the board?
The Let Them Eat Shrimp: Swim Alone promotional pack creates a brand new solo variant of the game, which was originally for 2-5 players. The solo pack has 2 instructional cards plus 5 placement cards. The goal of the solo game is to survive 5 days in the hostile ocean. At the start of each day, a player flips a placement card, which determines the placement requirements for the day. The solo cards open up a whole new experience for Let Them Eat Shrimp!
Here's a video of a solo play through.
Let Them Eat Shapes is an abstract "print and play" game for 2 players based on Let Them Eat Shrimp. All that is needed to play is a print out of one of the game sheets and 2 pencils. The PDF file contains 5 different board layouts, though stretch goals might increase that number. Watch the campaign's main video to learn more about this game. Dr. Finn requests that backers do not share these files in a public forum.
In the game, players begin with the four "tiles" - one of each shape, as marked by an X. On your turn, you place one of the shapes on the board by completely coloring in the shape in your supply (to show you no longer have it) and coloring in a corresponding shape on the board. If you color in shapes on the board, you "get" those shapes by marking an X in the shape in your supply. In this game, the worm shapes are to be avoided and score negative points.
The promo packs for Let Them Eat Shrimp are Kickstarter exclusives that will only be available during this campaign. Dr. Finn will only manufacture enough packs to properly fulfill the rewards for backers of this campaign.
Also available during this campaign is the previously released Shark v. Squid Expansion tiles. Important Note: This expansion contains 1 punchboard sheet including only the tiles for the expansion. The rules will be provided in PDF format.
For those unfamiliar with the original game, please watch the videos below to find out how much fun it is.
The shipping costs are automatically added to the level you choose. See the description of the rewards on the right to get detailed information.
Given the different sizes, shapes, and weights of the various rewards, shipping is a very tricky affair. Here are some important points and clarifications:
- All promo packs are mailed separately from the U.S., even if they are part of a combo level including the game or the Shark v. Squid expansion.
- The Shark v. Squid expansion is very expensive to send by itself outside the U.S. because it is considered a "package" and not a letter. So, if this is your only reward, it's disproportionately expensive to ship by itself, given its light weight.
- For those outside the U.S. or Canada: if your level includes both the base game and the Shark v. Squid expansion, they will be shipped together from the U.K. and will be EU-friendly.
- For those in Canada: if your level includes both the base game and the Shark v. Squid expansion, they will be shipped together from Canada and will be Canada friendly.
- Shipping for GAMES (not packs) is FLAT RATE. So, if you want to maximize the rewards, consider backing for more than 1 game by adding a game. Details for add-ons directly below.

Risks and challenges
Please read carefully before backing this project.
PRIOR KICKSTARTER PROJECTS
All prior Kickstarter campaigns for Dr. Finn's Games have been completed.
Game manufacturing and publishing contains a number of risks. For this project, the greatest risks follow from the fact that the packs will be manufactured in China and shipped to the U.S. The most serious threat in this regard concerns quality control over the manufacturing. A more likely threat, though less serious, is the possible delays involved. Dr. Finn's can mitigate both of these concerns. First, I will be using a manufacturer who has produced good results on card projects in the past. Second, I have successfully completed almost all of my Kickstarter campaigns right on time or even early (only 1 project was a few weeks late). If any delays do unexpectedly occur, backers will be notified promptly.
If you receive any rewards that are missing items, please contact me at email@example.com and replacements will be promptly shipped. If the item arrives damaged, you'll receive replacements for whatever is damaged. Please send along a picture, as I may be able to get reimbursed from the shipper. For the past few projects (after switching manufacturers and shipping companies), we've had a very low defect rate (less than 1%).
Refunds are not usually given, unless there is a failure to deliver the games you've requested. However, if you are completely unsatisfied with any game, please contact me and we can discuss it.
LOW QUANTITY ALERT
Some Dr. Finn's games are getting low in stock and it is not feasible to track add-on items during the campaign. It is possible (but unlikely) that there is not enough of a particular game to fulfill all rewards. If this happens, you will be refunded all expenses related to adding that item on.
Unlike many Kickstarter campaigns, Dr. Finn's Games has a great track record of being on time. Of course, unexpected things happen and there is chance that the game will not be shipped on time. I will keep you updated if the unexpected happens.
If you provide an incorrect address or fail to update your address and a shipment is returned, it is your responsibility to pay for the re-shipment.
Please read the shipping section above.
After this campaign you may receive updates on Dr. Finn's Games' other projects. However, such updates will be infrequent.
By backing this project, you acknowledge and accept the risks and challenges just stated.
