About this project
Cosmic Run is a fast-paced, dice-rolling, space race set in the year 2123. Earth has become inhospitable to life and humanity has spread throughout the universe in a quest to find a new home. Each surviving human colony will form exploration teams to different planets to gain advantages for their faction. These teams, however, are not just in a race with each other. Meteors, which strike the planets randomly, could destroy them. Will your teams be able to discover the planets, set up colonies, and erect a meteor defense system in time?
The game consists of 5 Planet Tracks. At the bottom of each track is a space base where players start a race to the planet. Players roll and place dice at the different tracks, each of which has a specific dice requirement to advance on. Alternatively, players can use dice to recruit aliens, who provide special powers and victory points. Also, during the game, meteors hit planets. If a planet suffers a 3rd meteor strike, it is destroyed and players win or lose points based upon their progress on the tracks.
The video reviews posted down below offer detailed explanations of the game play, so please watch them if you want to learn more about the game. Also, you may download a draft (lower resolution) rulebook. The document has lower resolution to make it easier to download. Also, if you would like to ask questions about the rules and/or make suggestions, please do. I still have time to make the rulebook crystal clear for you.
SOLO AND COOPERATIVE VARIANTS
Although originally designed as a competitive game, Cosmic Run can also be played as a solo challenge or cooperatively with only a few adjustments to the rules. The solo and co-op rules are part of the standard rulebook (link above).
Save humanity by yourself! In the solo challenge, you can recruit Aliens to help you reach all the planets before meteors destroy them. Spend VPs wisely to construct force fields and keep the meteors at bay. However, you may not have the resources to keep the force fields in place: will you reach the planet in time to construct a permanent one?
Here's a sampling of artwork from the game. These are the 5 different Alien races. Each race has its own special power, indicated by the icon near the bottom of each card.
The anatomy of an Alien Card:
Here are 2 of the 5 tracks. You can see that each track has a Space Base at the bottom and spaces leading to the planet. Each space has a VP value. You can lose points if you do not make progress up a track. One of the special backer rewards allows you to name the space base at the bottom of a track (see "Special Rewards" below).
Here's a meteor card explaining when the meteors hit the planets.
If you've watched the videos above, you can now learn more about the cooperative version of the game. In the following video, my two boys make an attempt to save humanity together. It turned out to be an exciting game, so I hope you enjoy watching it.

Dr. Finn's Games publishes the games of Steve Finn, an independent game designer. In this case, however, the game was co-designed by Steve's son, Seamus. Seamus came up with the basic mechanic and theme of the game. He also playtested the game with his dad thoroughly and actively helped make many of the myriad decisions while tweaking the rules.
Dr. Finn's Games relies almost exclusively on funds raised during Kickstarter campaigns and direct sales to individuals to publish games. Thus, your support in this campaign is greatly appreciated.
Reviews of Dr. Finn’s Games have been overwhelmingly positive. In a recent review, Richard Ham (”Rahdo Runs Through”) dubbed Dr. Finn the “King of the Filler.” In addition to "Cosmic Run," other games from Dr. Finn's are available through this project (see down below).
Shipping costs for U.S. backers have been incorporated into all prices. Shipping prices for all other countries are shown with the rewards on the right. Games shipped to the EU and Canada will be shipped from within the EU and Canada. Thus, no additional taxes or fees will apply. Games shipped to all other parts of the world will originate in the U.K. or U.S. and so will be subject to the fees and taxes of your country.
You may add on games to any level at or above the $28 level by simply adding the amount for the add-ons to the level amount. Details about the other Dr. Finn's Games are in the next section. Shipping costs are incorporated in the prices below.
* Special price for Canadian backers on marked games because Dr. Finn's Games has too many of those in a Canadian warehouse.
U.S. Backers may also add a Dr. Finn's Games T-shirt for $10. Sorry, it is not available outside the U.S. Sizes available: S-M-L-XL-2XL.
Kickstarter campaigns are an excellent opportunity to acquire multiple Dr. Finn's games. The games will not be distributed through traditional channels; only a few retailers (mostly those who back this project and others who have established a relationship with Dr. Finn's Games) will be selling Dr. Finn's games (with the exception of Biblios) in the future.
Boardgamegeek.com is the best place to do research on Dr. Finn's Games, as the website has multiple written and video reviews for each game, not to mention the collected individual ratings by users of the site. Below are some videos and links to more info.

Risks and challenges
Game manufacturing and publishing contains a number of risks. For this project, the greatest risks follow from the fact that the games will be manufactured in China and shipped to the U.S. The most serious threat in this regard concerns quality control over the manufacturing. A more likely threat, though less serious, is the possible delays involved. Dr. Finn's can mitigate both of these concerns. First, I will be using a manufacturer who has produced good results on game projects in the past. Second, Dr. Finn's Games has successfully completed each Kickstarter campaign on time (though we are presently in the end phase of the Biblios Dice campaign, but still on time) and understands how to keep the project on track. If any delays do unexpectedly occur, supporters will be notified promptly.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
